¹⁶ No king is saved by the size of his army;^(A)
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
¹⁷ A horse^(B) is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
¹⁸ But the eyes^(C) of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,^(D)
19 to deliver them from death^(E)
    and keep them alive in famine.^(F)

²⁰ We wait^(G) in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
²¹ In him our hearts rejoice,^(H)
    for we trust in his holy name.^(I)
22 May your unfailing love^(J) be with us, Lord,
    even as we put our hope in you.

⁴ You are my King^(A) and my God,^(B)
    who decrees^[a] victories^(C) for Jacob.
⁵ Through you we push back^(D) our enemies;
    through your name we trample^(E) our foes.
⁶ I put no trust in my bow,^(F)
    my sword does not bring me victory;
⁷ but you give us victory^(G) over our enemies,
    you put our adversaries to shame.^(H)
8 In God we make our boast^(I) all day long,^(J)
