¹⁴ When Abram heard that his relative^(A) had been taken captive, he called out the 318 trained^(B) men born in his household^(C) and went in pursuit as far as Dan.^(D)

² But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord,^(A) what can you give me since I remain childless^(B) and the one who will inherit^[a] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?^(C)”

³ And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant^(A) in my household^(B) will be my heir.”

¹² For the generations to come^(A) every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised,^(B) including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring.

¹³ Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised.^(A) My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant.^(B)
