¹⁵ Canaan fathered ^(A)Sidon, his firstborn, and ^(B)Heth, ^16 (C)the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite, ¹⁷ the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite, ¹⁸ the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. ^19 (D)The territory of the Canaanite ^[a]extended from Sidon ^[b]going toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; and ^[c]going toward ^(E)Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

³⁴ When Esau was forty years old ^(A)he ^[a]married Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite;

³⁵ and ^(A)they ^[a]brought grief to Isaac and Rebekah.

Jacob Is Sent Away

28 So Isaac called Jacob and ^(A)blessed him and commanded him, ^[a]saying to him, “^(B)You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.

⁸ So Esau saw that ^(A)the daughters of Canaan displeased ^[a]his father Isaac;
