5 ^(A)Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and ^[a]said, “Behold, we are ^(B)your bone and your flesh.

¹² You are my brothers; ^(A)you are my bone and my flesh. Why then should you be the last to bring back the king?’

¹³ And say to ^(A)Amasa, ‘Are you not my bone and my flesh? ^(B)May God do so to me, and more so, if you will not be ^(C)commander of the army ^[a]for me continually, ^(D)in place of Joab.’”
