Genesis 15:13-21
New American Standard Bible
13 Then God said to Abram, “Know for certain that (A)your [a]descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, [b]where (B)they will be enslaved and oppressed for (C)four hundred years. 14 But I will also judge the nation whom they will serve, and afterward they will come out (D)with [c]many possessions. 15 As for you, (E)you shall go to your fathers in peace; you will be buried at a good old age. 16 Then in (F)the fourth generation they will return here, for (G)the wrongdoing of the Amorite is not yet complete.”
17 Now it came about, when the sun had set, that it was very dark, and behold, a smoking oven and a flaming torch appeared which (H)passed between these pieces. 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying,
“(I)To your [d]descendants I have given this land,
From (J)the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:
19 (K)the land of the Kenite, the Kenizzite, the Kadmonite, 20 the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Rephaim, 21 the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Girgashite, and the Jebusite.”

13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years(A) your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved(B) and mistreated there. 14 But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out(C) with great possessions.(D) 15 You, however, will go to your ancestors(E) in peace and be buried at a good old age.(F) 16 In the fourth generation(G) your descendants will come back here,(H) for the sin of the Amorites(I) has not yet reached its full measure.”
17 When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch(J) appeared and passed between the pieces.(K) 18 On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram(L) and said, “To your descendants I give this land,(M) from the Wadi[a] of Egypt(N) to the great river, the Euphrates(O)— 19 the land of the Kenites,(P) Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20 Hittites,(Q) Perizzites,(R) Rephaites,(S) 21 Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”(T)
