I am God All-Powerful, and from now on your name will be Israel[a] instead of Jacob. You will have many children. Your descendants will become nations, and some of the men in your family will even be kings.

9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,[a](A) God appeared to him again and blessed him.(B) 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob,[b] but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.[c]”(C) So he named him Israel.
11 And God said to him, “I am God Almighty[d];(D) be fruitful and increase in number.(E) A nation(F) and a community of nations will come from you, and kings will be among your descendants.(G)

I am the eternal God. So tell them that the Lord,[a] whose name is “I Am,” has sent you. This is my name forever, and it is the name that people must use from now on.
