³⁰ So Jacob named the place ^[a]Peniel, for he said, “^(A)I have seen God face to face, yet my ^[b]life has been ^[c]spared.” ³¹ Now the sun rose upon him just as he crossed over ^(B)Penuel, and he was limping on his hip.

⁸ Then he went up from there to ^[a](A)Penuel and spoke similarly to them; and the men of Penuel answered him just as the men of Succoth had answered.

^17 (A)And he tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.
