⁷ Jacob’s sons returned from the field when they heard about the incident and were deeply grieved and angry. For Shechem had committed an outrage against Israel by raping Jacob’s daughter,^(A) and such a thing should not be done.

²¹ they will bring the woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city will stone her to death. For she has committed an outrage in Israel by being promiscuous in her father’s house. You must purge the evil from you.

²³ The owner of the house went out and said to them, “No, don’t do this evil, my brothers. After all, this man has come into my house. Don’t do this horrible thing.^{(A) 24} Here, let me bring out my virgin daughter^(B) and the man’s concubine now. Use them^(C) and do whatever you want^[a] to them. But don’t do this horrible thing to this man.”

⁶ Then I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout Israel’s territory, because they committed a horrible shame^(A) in Israel.
