³⁰ “So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father,^(A) and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy’s life,^(B)

³³ He recognized it and said, “It is my son’s robe! Some ferocious animal^(A) has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces.”^(B)

¹³ But they replied, “Your servants^(A) were twelve brothers, the sons of one man, who lives in the land of Canaan.^(B) The youngest is now with our father, and one is no more.”^(C)

³⁸ But Jacob said, “My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead^(A) and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him^(B) on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave^(C) in sorrow.^(D)”

⁸ Then Judah^(A) said to Israel^(B) his father, “Send the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die.^(C)
