Genesis 49:4-6
Contemporary English Version

4 Uncontrollable as a flood,
you slept with my wife
    and disgraced my bed.
And so you no longer deserve
    the place of honor.

5 Simeon and Levi,
you are brothers,
    each a gruesome sword.
6 I never want to take part
    in your plans or deeds.
You slaughtered people
    in your anger,
and you crippled cattle
    for no reason.

New International Version

4 Turbulent as the waters,(A) you will no longer excel,
    for you went up onto your father’s bed,
    onto my couch and defiled it.(B)

5 “Simeon(C) and Levi(D) are brothers—
    their swords[a] are weapons of violence.(E)
6 Let me not enter their council,
    let me not join their assembly,(F)
for they have killed men in their anger(G)
    and hamstrung(H) oxen as they pleased.
