12 Jacob fled to Syria and earned a wife by tending sheep. 13 Then the Lord led his people out of Egypt by a prophet, who guided and protected them. 14 But Ephraim has bitterly provoked the Lord. The Lord will sentence him to death as payment for his sins.

New International Version
12 Jacob fled to the country of Aram[a];(A)
Israel served to get a wife,
and to pay for her he tended sheep.(B)
13 The Lord used a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt,(C)
by a prophet he cared for him.(D)
14 But Ephraim has aroused his bitter anger;
his Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed(E)
and will repay him for his contempt.(F)
