Hosea 2:19-23

New International Version

¹⁹I will betroth^(A) you to me forever;
    I will betroth you in^[a] righteousness and justice,^(B)
    in^[b] love and compassion.^(C)
²⁰I will betroth you in^[c] faithfulness,
    and you will acknowledge^(D) the Lord.^(E)

²¹“In that day I will respond,”
    declares the Lord—
“I will respond^(F) to the skies,
    and they will respond to the earth;
²²and the earth will respond to the grain,
    the new wine and the olive oil,^(G)
    and they will respond to Jezreel.^[d]^(H)
²³I will plant^(I) her for myself in the land;
    I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.^[e]^(J)’
I will say to those called ‘Not my people,^[f]’ ‘You are my people’;^(K)
    and they will say, ‘You are my God.^(L)’”

Ephesians 5:26-33

New International Version

²⁶to make her holy,^(A) cleansing^[a] her by the washing^(B) with water through the word, ²⁷and to present her to himself^(C) as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.^(D) ²⁸In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives^(E) as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— ³⁰for we are members of his body.^(F) ³¹“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”^[b]^(G) ³²This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. ³³However, each one of you also must love his wife^(H) as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
