12 How you have (A)fallen from heaven,
You [a](B)star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who defeated the nations!
13 But you said in your heart,
‘I will (C)ascend to heaven;
I will (D)raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
(E)I will make myself like the Most High.’
15 Nevertheless you (F)will be brought down to Sheol,
To the recesses of the pit.
16 Those who see you will stare at you,
They will [b]closely examine you, saying,
‘Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Who shook kingdoms,
17 Who made the world like a (G)wilderness
And overthrew its cities,
Who (H)did not [c]allow his prisoners to go home?’
18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory,
Each in his own [d]tomb.
19 But you have been (I)hurled out of your tomb
Like [e]a rejected branch,
[f]Clothed with those killed who have been pierced with a sword,
Who go down to the stones of the (J)pit
Like a (K)trampled corpse.
20 You will not be united with them in burial,
Because you have ruined your country,
You have killed your people.
May the (L)descendants of evildoers never be mentioned.

“You [a]had the seal of [b]perfection,
Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in (B)Eden, the garden of God;
(C)Every precious stone was your covering:
The (D)ruby, the topaz and the diamond;

The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald;
And the gold, the workmanship of your [c](E)settings and [d]sockets,
Was in you.
On the day that you were created
They were prepared.
14 You were the (F)anointed cherub who [e]covers,
And I placed you there.
You were on the holy (G)mountain of God;
You walked in the midst of the (H)stones of fire.
15 You were (I)blameless in your ways
From the day you were created
Until (J)unrighteousness was found in you.
16 By the (K)abundance of your trade
[f]You were internally (L)filled with violence,
And you sinned;
Therefore I have cast you as profane
From the mountain of God.
And I have destroyed you, you [g]covering cherub,
From the midst of the stones of fire.
17 Your heart was haughty because of your (M)beauty;
You (N)corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor.
I threw you to the ground;
I put you before (O)kings,
That they may see you.
18 By the multitude of your wrongdoings,
In the unrighteousness of your trade
You profaned your sanctuaries.
Therefore I have brought (P)fire from the midst of you;
It has consumed you,
And I have turned you to (Q)ashes on the earth
In the eyes of all who see you.
19 All who know you among the peoples
Are appalled at you;
You have become [h](R)terrified
And you will cease to be (S)forever.”’”

The Angel, Michael

And there was war in heaven, (A)Michael and his angels waging war with the (B)dragon. The dragon and (C)his angels waged war, and they did not prevail, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great (D)dragon was thrown down, the (E)serpent of old who is called the devil and (F)Satan, who (G)deceives the whole [a]world; he was (H)thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. 10 Then I heard (I)a loud voice in heaven, saying,

“Now the (J)salvation, and the power, and the (K)kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the (L)accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down, the one who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 And they (M)overcame him because of (N)the blood of the Lamb and because of (O)the word of their testimony, and they (P)did not love their life even [b]when faced with death. 12 For this reason, (Q)rejoice, you heavens and (R)you who dwell in them. (S)Woe to the earth and the sea, because (T)the devil has come down to you with great wrath, knowing that he has only (U)a short time.”

Then war broke out in heaven. Michael(A) and his angels fought against the dragon,(B) and the dragon and his angels(C) fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent(D) called the devil,(E) or Satan,(F) who leads the whole world astray.(G) He was hurled to the earth,(H) and his angels with him.

10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven(I) say:

“Now have come the salvation(J) and the power
    and the kingdom of our God,
    and the authority of his Messiah.
For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,(K)
    who accuses them before our God day and night,
    has been hurled down.
11 They triumphed over(L) him
    by the blood of the Lamb(M)
    and by the word of their testimony;(N)
they did not love their lives so much
    as to shrink from death.(O)
12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens(P)
    and you who dwell in them!
But woe(Q) to the earth and the sea,(R)
    because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
    because he knows that his time is short.”
