Isaiah 36:6-8

6 See, you are trusting in Egypt, whose power is like a broken piece of grass. If a man rests against it, it will cut into his hand. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 7 But if you tell me, ‘We trust in the Lord our God,’ is it not He whose high places and altars Hezekiah has taken away, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship at this altar’? 8 So now come and make an agreement with my leader, the king of Assyria. And I will give you 2,000 horses, if you are able to put horsemen on them.

6 Look, I know you are depending(A) on Egypt,(B) that splintered reed(C) of a staff, which pierces the hand of anyone who leans on it! Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who depend on him. 7 But if you say to me, “We are depending(D) on the Lord our God”—isn’t he the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed,(E) saying to Judah and Jerusalem, “You must worship before this altar”?(F)
8 “‘Come now, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses(G)—if you can put riders on them!
