The Lord Will Turn His People from Wrongdoing

59 The Lord is not too weak to save
or his ear too deaf to hear.
But your wrongs have separated you from your God,
and your sins have made him hide his face
so that he doesn’t hear you.
Your hands are stained with blood,
and your fingers are stained with sin.
You speak lies,
and you mutter wicked things.
No one calls for justice,
and no one pleads his case truthfully.
People trust pointless arguments and speak lies.
They conceive trouble and give birth to evil.
They hatch viper eggs
and weave spiderwebs.
Those who eat their eggs will die.
When an egg is crushed, a poisonous snake is hatched.
Their webs can’t be used for clothes,
nor can they cover themselves with their works.
Their works are evil.
Their hands have committed acts of violence.
Their feet run to do evil.
They hurry to shed innocent blood.
Their plans are evil.
Ruin and destruction are on their highways.
They don’t know the way of peace.
There’s no justice on their highways.
They’ve made their paths crooked.
Whoever walks on them will never know peace.

That is why justice is far from us,
and righteousness doesn’t reach us.
We hope for light, but we walk in darkness.
We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 We grope like blind men along a wall.
We grope like people without eyes.
We stumble at noon as if it were twilight.
We are like dead people among healthy people.
11 We all growl like bears.
We coo like doves.
We hope for justice, but there is none.
We hope for salvation, but it’s far from us.

12 You are aware of our many rebellious acts.
Our sins testify against us.
Our rebellious acts are with us.
We know our wrongdoings.
13 We have rebelled and denied the Lord.
We have turned away from our God.
We have spoken about oppression and revolt.
We have conceived and uttered lies in our hearts.
14 Justice is turned back,
and righteousness stands far away.
Truth has fallen in the street,
and honesty can’t come in.
15 Truth is missing.
Those who turn away from evil make themselves victims.

The Lord sees it, and he’s angry
because there’s no justice.
16 He sees that there’s no one to help.
He’s astounded that there’s no one to intercede.
So with his own power he wins a victory.
His righteousness supports him.
17 He puts on righteousness like a coat of armor
and a helmet of salvation on his head.
He wears clothes of vengeance.
He wraps himself with fury as a coat.
18 He will pay them back according to their deeds.
He will pay back his opponents with wrath and punish his enemies.
He will pay back the people who live on the coastlands.
19 The people of the west will fear the name of the Lord.
Those in the east will fear his glory.
He will come like a rushing stream.
The wind of the Lord pushes him.

20 “Then a Savior will come to Zion,
to those in Jacob who turn from rebellion,” declares the Lord.

21 “This is my promise [a] to them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I put in your mouth will not leave you. They will be with your children and your grandchildren permanently,” says the Lord.

The Lord Will Be Jerusalem’s Glory

60 Arise! Shine! Your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord has dawned.
Darkness now covers the earth,
and thick darkness covers the nations.
But the Lord dawns,
and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings will come to the brightness of your dawn.

“Look up, look around, and watch.
All of your people assemble and come to you.
Your sons come from far away.
Your daughters are carried in their arms.
Then you will see this and rejoice,
and your heart will be thrilled with joy,
because the riches of the sea will be brought to you.
The wealth of the nations will come to you.

“Many camels will cover your ⌞land⌟,
young camels from Midian and Ephah.
Everyone from Sheba will come.
They will bring gold and incense.
They will sing the praises of the Lord.
All of the flocks from Kedar will gather and come to you.
The rams of Nebaioth will serve you.
They will be sacrificed as acceptable ⌞offerings⌟ on my altar.
So I will honor my beautiful temple.

“Who are these people that fly by like clouds,
like doves to their nests?
Certainly, the coastlands wait with hope for me.
The ships from Tarshish are the first to bring your children
from far away.
Their silver and their gold comes with them
to honor the name of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel,
because he has honored you.

10 “Foreigners will rebuild your walls,
and their kings will serve you.
In my anger I struck you,
but in my favor I have compassion on you.
11 Your gates will always be open.
They will never be closed day or night
so that people may bring you the wealth of nations,
with their kings led as prisoners.
12 Nations and kingdoms that do not serve you will be destroyed.
The nations will certainly be ruined.

13 “Lebanon’s glory will come to you:
Cedar, fir, and cypress trees will come to beautify my holy place,
and I will honor the place where my feet rest.
14 The descendants of those who oppress you will bow in front of you.
All who despise you will bow at your feet.
They will call you the city of the Lord,
Zion, the city of the Holy One of Israel.

15 “You have been abandoned and hated; no one has passed through you.
But now I will make you a source of everlasting pride,
a joy for all generations.
16 You will drink milk from other nations
and nurse at royal breasts.
Then you will know that I am the Lord, your Savior,
the Mighty One of Jacob, your Defender.
17 I will bring gold instead of bronze.
I will bring silver instead of iron,
bronze instead of wood, and iron instead of stone.
I will appoint peace as your governor and righteousness as your ruler.
18 No longer will you hear about violence in your land
or desolation and destruction within your borders.
You will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise.
19 The sun will no longer be your light during the day,
nor will the brightness of the moon give you light,
But the Lord will be your everlasting light.
Your God will be your glory.
20 Your sun will no longer go down,
nor will your moon disappear.
The Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sadness will be over.
21 Then all your people will be righteous,
and they will possess the land permanently.
They will be the seedling I have planted,
the honored work of my hands.
22 The smallest of them will become a family.
The weakest of them will become a mighty nation.
At the right time I, the Lord, will make it happen quickly.”

The Lord Will Anoint His Servant with His Spirit

61 The Spirit of the Almighty Lord is with me
because the Lord has anointed me
to deliver good news to humble people.
He has sent me
to heal those who are brokenhearted,
to announce that captives will be set free
and prisoners will be released.
⌞He has sent me⌟
to announce the year of the Lord’s good will
and the day of our God’s vengeance,
to comfort all those who grieve.
⌞He has sent me⌟
to provide for all those who grieve in Zion,
to give them crowns instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of ⌞tears of⌟ grief,
and clothes of praise instead of a spirit of weakness.

They will be called Oaks of Righteousness,
the Plantings of the Lord,
so that he might display his glory.

They will rebuild the ancient ruins.
They will restore the places destroyed long ago.
They will renew the ruined cities, the places destroyed generations ago.
Foreigners will come forward and become shepherds for your flocks,
and children of foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
You will be called the priests of the Lord.
You will be called the servants of our God.
You will consume the wealth of the nations.
You will boast in their splendor.
You will receive a double measure of wealth instead of your shame.
You will sing about your wealth instead of being disgraced.
That is why you will have a double measure of wealth in your land.
You will have everlasting joy.
I, the Lord, love justice.
I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
I will faithfully reward my people’s work.
I will make an everlasting promise [b] to them.
Then their offspring will be known among the nations
and their descendants among the people.
Everyone who sees them will recognize
that they are the descendants whom the Lord has blessed.

10 I will find joy in the Lord.
I will delight in my God.
He has dressed me in the clothes of salvation.
He has wrapped me in the robe of righteousness
like a bridegroom with a priest’s turban,
like a bride with her jewels.
11 Like the ground that brings forth its crops
and like a garden that makes the seed in it grow,
so the Almighty Lord will make righteousness and praise
spring up in front of all nations.

Jerusalem’s Salvation Is Coming

62 For Zion’s sake I will not remain silent.
For Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest,
until its righteousness shines like the dawn
and its salvation burns brightly like a torch.
The nations will see your righteousness.
All kings will see your glory.
You will be given a new name
that the Lord will announce.
Then you will be a beautiful crown in the hand of the Lord,
a royal crown in the hand of your God.
You will no longer be called Deserted,
and your land will no longer be called Destroyed.
But you will be named My Delight,
and your land will be named Married.
The Lord is delighted with you,
and your land will be married.
As a young man marries a woman,
so your sons will marry you.
As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride,
so your God will rejoice over you.

I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem.
They will never be silent day or night.
Whoever calls on the Lord, do not give yourselves any rest,
and do not give him any rest until he establishes Jerusalem
and makes it an object of praise throughout the earth.
The Lord has sworn with his right hand and with his mighty arm,
“I will never again let your enemies eat your grain,
nor will foreigners drink the new wine which you made.”
Those who harvest grain
will eat it and praise the Lord.
Those who gather grapes
will drink wine in my holy courtyards.

10 Go through! Go through the gates!
Prepare a way for the people!
Build up! Build up the highway!
Clear away the stones!
Raise a flag for the people!

11 The Lord has announced to the ends of the earth:
“Tell my people Zion,
‘Your Savior is coming.
His reward is with him,
and the people he has won arrive ahead of him.’ ”

12 They will be called Holy People, Those Reclaimed by the Lord,
and you will be called Sought After, a City Not Deserted.

The Lord Alone Wins His Victory

63 Who is this coming from Bozrah in Edom
with his clothes stained bright red?
Who is this dressed in splendor,
going forward with great strength?

“It is I, the Lord. I am coming to announce my victory.
I am powerful enough to save ⌞you⌟.”

Why are your clothes red
and your garments like those who trample grapes in a winepress?

“I have trampled alone in the winepress.
No one was with me.
In my anger I trampled on people.
In my wrath I stomped on them.
Their blood splattered my clothes
so all my clothing has been stained.
I planned the day of vengeance.
The year for my reclaiming ⌞you⌟ has come.
I looked, but there was no help.
I was astounded that there was no ⌞outside⌟ support.
So with my own power I won a victory.
My anger supported me.
In my anger I trampled on people.
In my wrath I made them drunk
and poured their blood on the ground.”

The Lord’s People Pray for His Help

I will acknowledge the Lord’s acts of mercy,
and ⌞sing⌟ the praises of the Lord,
because of everything that the Lord has done for us.
He has done many good things for the nation of Israel
because of his compassion and his unlimited mercy.
He said, “They are my people,
children who will not lie to me.”
So he became their Savior.
In all their troubles he was troubled,
and he was the Messenger who saved them.
In his love and compassion he reclaimed them.
He always held them and carried them in the past.
10 But they rebelled and offended his Holy Spirit.
So he turned against them as their enemy; he fought against them.

11 Then his people remembered Moses and the distant past.
Where is the one who brought them out of the sea
with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is the one who put his Holy Spirit in them?
12 Where is the one who sent his powerful arm
to support the right hand of Moses?
Where is the one who divided the water in front of them
to make an everlasting name for himself?
13 Where is the one who led them through the deep water?
Like horses in the wilderness,
they didn’t stumble.
14 Like animals going down into a valley,
they were given rest by the Lord’s Spirit.
In this way you guided your people
to make an honored name for yourself.

15 Look down and see from heaven, from your holy and beautiful dwelling.
Where is your determination and might?
Where is the longing of your heart and your compassion?
Don’t hold back.
16 You are our Father.
Even though Abraham doesn’t know us
and Israel doesn’t pay attention to us,
O Lord, you are our Father.
Your name is our Defender From Everlasting.
17 O Lord, why do you let us wander from your ways
and become so stubborn that we are unable to fear you?
Return for the sake of your servants.
They are the tribes that belong to you.

18 Your holy people possessed the land for a little while.
Our enemies have trampled on your holy place.
19 We have become like those whom you never ruled,
like those who are not called by your name.

Sin, Confession and Redemption

59 Surely the arm(A) of the Lord is not too short(B) to save,
nor his ear too dull to hear.(C)
But your iniquities have separated(D)
    you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you,
so that he will not hear.(E)
For your hands are stained with blood,(F)
    your fingers with guilt.(G)
Your lips have spoken falsely,(H)
and your tongue mutters wicked things.
No one calls for justice;(I)
no one pleads a case with integrity.
They rely(J) on empty arguments, they utter lies;(K)
they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.(L)
They hatch the eggs of vipers(M)
    and spin a spider’s web.(N)
Whoever eats their eggs will die,
and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.
Their cobwebs are useless for clothing;
they cannot cover themselves with what they make.(O)
Their deeds are evil deeds,
and acts of violence(P) are in their hands.
Their feet rush into sin;
they are swift to shed innocent blood.(Q)
They pursue evil schemes;(R)
acts of violence mark their ways.(S)
The way of peace they do not know;(T)
there is no justice in their paths.
They have turned them into crooked roads;(U)
no one who walks along them will know peace.(V)

So justice is far from us,
and righteousness does not reach us.
We look for light, but all is darkness;(W)
for brightness, but we walk in deep shadows.
10 Like the blind(X) we grope along the wall,
feeling our way like people without eyes.
At midday we stumble(Y) as if it were twilight;
among the strong, we are like the dead.(Z)
11 We all growl like bears;
    we moan mournfully like doves.(AA)
We look for justice, but find none;
for deliverance, but it is far away.

12 For our offenses(AB) are many in your sight,
and our sins testify(AC) against us.
Our offenses are ever with us,
    and we acknowledge our iniquities:(AD)
13 rebellion(AE) and treachery against the Lord,
turning our backs(AF) on our God,
inciting revolt and oppression,(AG)
uttering lies(AH) our hearts have conceived.
14 So justice(AI) is driven back,
    and righteousness(AJ) stands at a distance;
truth(AK) has stumbled in the streets,
    honesty cannot enter.
15 Truth(AL) is nowhere to be found,
and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.

The Lord looked and was displeased
    that there was no justice.(AM)
16 He saw that there was no one,(AN)
he was appalled that there was no one to intervene;(AO)
so his own arm achieved salvation(AP) for him,
and his own righteousness(AQ) sustained him.
17 He put on righteousness as his breastplate,(AR)
    and the helmet(AS) of salvation on his head;
he put on the garments(AT) of vengeance(AU)
and wrapped himself in zeal(AV) as in a cloak.
18 According to what they have done,
    so will he repay(AW)
wrath to his enemies
    and retribution to his foes;
he will repay the islands(AX) their due.
19 From the west,(AY) people will fear the name of the Lord,
and from the rising of the sun,(AZ) they will revere his glory.(BA)
For he will come like a pent-up flood
that the breath(BB) of the Lord drives along.[a]

20 “The Redeemer(BC) will come to Zion,(BD)
to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,”(BE)
declares the Lord.

21 “As for me, this is my covenant(BF) with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit,(BG) who is on you, will not depart from you,(BH) and my words that I have put in your mouth(BI) will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.

The Glory of Zion

60 “Arise,(BJ) shine, for your light(BK) has come,
and the glory(BL) of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness(BM) covers the earth
and thick darkness(BN) is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
Nations(BO) will come to your light,(BP)
and kings(BQ) to the brightness of your dawn.

“Lift up your eyes and look about you:
    All assemble(BR) and come to you;
your sons come from afar,(BS)
and your daughters(BT) are carried on the hip.(BU)
Then you will look and be radiant,(BV)
your heart will throb and swell with joy;(BW)
the wealth(BX) on the seas will be brought to you,
to you the riches of the nations will come.
Herds of camels(BY) will cover your land,
young camels of Midian(BZ) and Ephah.(CA)
And all from Sheba(CB) will come,
    bearing gold and incense(CC)
and proclaiming the praise(CD) of the Lord.
All Kedar’s(CE) flocks will be gathered to you,
    the rams of Nebaioth will serve you;
they will be accepted as offerings(CF) on my altar,(CG)
and I will adorn my glorious temple.(CH)

“Who are these(CI) that fly along like clouds,(CJ)
    like doves to their nests?
Surely the islands(CK) look to me;
in the lead are the ships of Tarshish,[b](CL)
bringing(CM) your children from afar,
    with their silver and gold,(CN)
to the honor(CO) of the Lord your God,
    the Holy One(CP) of Israel,
for he has endowed you with splendor.(CQ)

10 “Foreigners(CR) will rebuild your walls,
and their kings(CS) will serve you.
Though in anger I struck you,
    in favor(CT) I will show you compassion.(CU)
11 Your gates(CV) will always stand open,
they will never be shut, day or night,
so that people may bring you the wealth of the nations(CW)
their kings(CX) led in triumphal procession.
12 For the nation or kingdom that will not serve(CY) you will perish;
    it will be utterly ruined.(CZ)

13 “The glory of Lebanon(DA) will come to you,
the juniper, the fir and the cypress together,(DB)
to adorn my sanctuary;(DC)
and I will glorify the place for my feet.(DD)
14 The children of your oppressors(DE) will come bowing before you;
all who despise you will bow down(DF) at your feet
and will call you the City(DG) of the Lord,
Zion(DH) of the Holy One(DI) of Israel.

15 “Although you have been forsaken(DJ) and hated,
    with no one traveling(DK) through,
I will make you the everlasting pride(DL)
and the joy(DM) of all generations.
16 You will drink the milk of nations
and be nursed(DN) at royal breasts.
Then you will know(DO) that I, the Lord, am your Savior,(DP)
your Redeemer,(DQ) the Mighty One of Jacob.(DR)
17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,(DS)
and silver in place of iron.
Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,
and iron in place of stones.
I will make peace(DT) your governor
    and well-being your ruler.(DU)
18 No longer will violence(DV) be heard in your land,
nor ruin or destruction(DW) within your borders,
but you will call your walls Salvation(DX)
    and your gates Praise.(DY)
19 The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,(DZ)
and your God will be your glory.(EA)
20 Your sun(EB) will never set again,
    and your moon will wane no more;
the Lord will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sorrow(EC) will end.
21 Then all your people will be righteous(ED)
and they will possess(EE) the land forever.
They are the shoot I have planted,(EF)
    the work of my hands,(EG)
for the display of my splendor.(EH)
22 The least of you will become a thousand,
    the smallest a mighty nation.(EI)
I am the Lord;
in its time I will do this swiftly.”(EJ)

The Year of the Lord’s Favor

61 The Spirit(EK) of the Sovereign Lord(EL) is on me,
because the Lord has anointed(EM) me
to proclaim good news(EN) to the poor.(EO)
He has sent me to bind up(EP) the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom(EQ) for the captives(ER)
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[c]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor(ES)
and the day of vengeance(ET) of our God,
to comfort(EU) all who mourn,(EV)
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown(EW) of beauty
    instead of ashes,(EX)
the oil(EY) of joy
    instead of mourning,(EZ)
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting(FA) of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.(FB)

They will rebuild the ancient ruins(FC)
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
Strangers(FD) will shepherd your flocks;
foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
And you will be called priests(FE) of the Lord,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth(FF) of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.

Instead of your shame(FG)
you will receive a double(FH) portion,
and instead of disgrace
you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit(FI) a double portion in your land,
and everlasting joy(FJ) will be yours.

“For I, the Lord, love justice;(FK)
    I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
and make an everlasting covenant(FL) with them.
Their descendants(FM) will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the Lord has blessed.”(FN)

10 I delight greatly in the Lord;
my soul rejoices(FO) in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,(FP)
as a bridegroom adorns his head(FQ) like a priest,
and as a bride(FR) adorns herself with her jewels.
11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden(FS) causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness(FT)
and praise spring up before all nations.

Zion’s New Name

62 For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,(FU)
for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet,
till her vindication(FV) shines out like the dawn,(FW)
her salvation(FX) like a blazing torch.
The nations(FY) will see your vindication,
    and all kings your glory;
you will be called by a new name(FZ)
that the mouth of the Lord will bestow.
You will be a crown(GA) of splendor in the Lord’s hand,
a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
No longer will they call you Deserted,(GB)
    or name your land Desolate.(GC)
But you will be called Hephzibah,[d](GD)
    and your land Beulah[e];
for the Lord will take delight(GE) in you,
and your land will be married.(GF)
As a young man marries a young woman,
    so will your Builder marry you;
as a bridegroom(GG) rejoices over his bride,
so will your God rejoice(GH) over you.

I have posted watchmen(GI) on your walls, Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the Lord,
    give yourselves no rest,(GJ)
and give him no rest(GK) till he establishes Jerusalem
and makes her the praise(GL) of the earth.

The Lord has sworn(GM) by his right hand
    and by his mighty arm:
“Never again will I give your grain(GN)
    as food for your enemies,
and never again will foreigners drink the new wine
    for which you have toiled;
but those who harvest it will eat(GO) it
    and praise the Lord,(GP)
and those who gather the grapes will drink it
in the courts of my sanctuary.”(GQ)

10 Pass through, pass through the gates!(GR)
Prepare the way for the people.
Build up, build up the highway!(GS)
    Remove the stones.
Raise a banner(GT) for the nations.

11 The Lord has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:(GU)
“Say to Daughter Zion,(GV)
    ‘See, your Savior comes!(GW)
See, his reward is with him,
    and his recompense accompanies him.’”(GX)
12 They will be called(GY) the Holy People,(GZ)
    the Redeemed(HA) of the Lord;
and you will be called Sought After,
    the City No Longer Deserted.(HB)

God’s Day of Vengeance and Redemption

63 Who is this coming from Edom,(HC)
from Bozrah,(HD) with his garments stained crimson?(HE)
Who is this, robed in splendor,
striding forward in the greatness of his strength?(HF)

“It is I, proclaiming victory,
    mighty to save.”(HG)

Why are your garments red,
like those of one treading the winepress?(HH)

“I have trodden the winepress(HI) alone;
from the nations no one was with me.
I trampled(HJ) them in my anger
and trod them down in my wrath;(HK)
their blood spattered my garments,(HL)
and I stained all my clothing.
It was for me the day of vengeance;(HM)
the year for me to redeem had come.
I looked, but there was no one(HN) to help,
    I was appalled that no one gave support;
so my own arm(HO) achieved salvation for me,
and my own wrath sustained me.(HP)
I trampled(HQ) the nations in my anger;
in my wrath I made them drunk(HR)
and poured their blood(HS) on the ground.”

Praise and Prayer

I will tell of the kindnesses(HT) of the Lord,
the deeds for which he is to be praised,
according to all the Lord has done for us—
yes, the many good things(HU)
    he has done for Israel,
according to his compassion(HV) and many kindnesses.
He said, “Surely they are my people,(HW)
    children who will be true to me”;
and so he became their Savior.(HX)
In all their distress he too was distressed,
and the angel(HY) of his presence(HZ) saved them.[f]
In his love and mercy he redeemed(IA) them;
he lifted them up and carried(IB) them
    all the days of old.(IC)
10 Yet they rebelled(ID)
    and grieved his Holy Spirit.(IE)
So he turned and became their enemy(IF)
and he himself fought(IG) against them.

11 Then his people recalled[g] the days of old,
the days of Moses and his people—
where is he who brought them through the sea,(IH)
with the shepherd of his flock?(II)
Where is he who set
    his Holy Spirit(IJ) among them,
12 who sent his glorious arm(IK) of power
to be at Moses’ right hand,
who divided the waters(IL) before them,
to gain for himself everlasting renown,(IM)
13 who led(IN) them through the depths?(IO)
Like a horse in open country,
    they did not stumble;(IP)
14 like cattle that go down to the plain,
they were given rest(IQ) by the Spirit of the Lord.
This is how you guided your people
to make for yourself a glorious name.

15 Look down from heaven(IR) and see,
from your lofty throne,(IS) holy and glorious.
Where are your zeal(IT) and your might?
Your tenderness and compassion(IU) are withheld(IV) from us.
16 But you are our Father,(IW)
though Abraham does not know us
    or Israel acknowledge(IX) us;
you, Lord, are our Father,
our Redeemer(IY) from of old is your name.
17 Why, Lord, do you make us wander(IZ) from your ways
and harden our hearts(JA) so we do not revere(JB) you?
Return(JC) for the sake of your servants,
the tribes that are your inheritance.(JD)
18 For a little while(JE) your people possessed your holy place,
but now our enemies have trampled(JF) down your sanctuary.(JG)
19 We are yours from of old;
but you have not ruled over them,
they have not been called[h] by your name.(JH)
