2 For you have made[a] the city a heap,
the fortified city a ruin,
the palace of foreigners is no longer[b] a city;
it will never[c] be rebuilt.
3 Therefore strong peoples will glorify you;
a city of ruthless nations, they will fear you.
4 For you have been a refuge to the poor,
a refuge to the needy in his distress,
a shelter from the rainstorm,
a shade from the heat.
For the breath of the ruthless was like a rainstorm against a wall,[d]
