The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, (A)“The Lord your God pronounced this disaster against this place. The Lord has brought it about, and has done as he said. (B)Because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey his voice, this thing has come upon you. Now, behold, I release you today from (C)the chains on your hands. (D)If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will look after you well, (E)but if it seems wrong to you to come with me to Babylon, do not come. (F)See, the whole land is before you; go wherever you think it good and right to go.

When the commander(A) of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, “The Lord your God decreed(B) this disaster(C) for this place.(D) And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned(E) against the Lord and did not obey(F) him. But today I am freeing(G) you from the chains(H) on your wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come. Look, the whole country lies before you; go wherever you please.”(I)
