Jeremiah 40:2-4
Lexham English Bible

2 And the captain of the guard[a] took Jeremiah and said to him, “Yahweh your God threatened this disaster to this place, 3 and now he has brought it about,[b] and Yahweh has done just as[c] he threatened. Because you sinned against Yahweh and did not listen to his voice, so this thing has happened to you. 4 And so then look, I have released you today[d] from the chains that were on your hands.[e] If it is good in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, then come, and I will take care of you.[f] But if it is bad in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, then refrain. Look, the whole land is before you.[g] To wherever it is good and right in your eyes to go, then go there.”

New International Version

2 When the commander(A) of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, “The Lord your God decreed(B) this disaster(C) for this place.(D) 3 And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned(E) against the Lord and did not obey(F) him. 4 But today I am freeing(G) you from the chains(H) on your wrists. Come with me to Babylon, if you like, and I will look after you; but if you do not want to, then don’t come. Look, the whole country lies before you; go wherever you please.”(I)
