35 And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the Lord, him who offers sacrifice in (A)the high place and makes offerings to his god. 36 Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of (B)Kir-hareseth. (C)Therefore the riches they gained have perished.

37 (D)“For every head is shaved and every beard cut off. (E)On all the hands are gashes, and (F)around the waist is sackcloth. 38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like (G)a vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord.

35 In Moab I will put an end
    to those who make offerings on the high places(A)
    and burn incense(B) to their gods,”
declares the Lord.
36 “So my heart laments(C) for Moab like the music of a pipe;
    it laments like a pipe for the people of Kir Hareseth.(D)
    The wealth they acquired(E) is gone.
37 Every head is shaved(F)
    and every beard(G) cut off;
every hand is slashed
    and every waist is covered with sackcloth.(H)
38 On all the roofs in Moab
    and in the public squares(I)
there is nothing but mourning,
    for I have broken Moab
    like a jar(J) that no one wants,”
declares the Lord.
