37 “For (A)every head shall be bald, and every beard clipped;
On all the hands shall be cuts, and (B)on the loins sackcloth—
38 A general lamentation
On all the (C)housetops of Moab,
And in its streets;
For I have (D)broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure,” says the Lord.
39 “They shall wail:
‘How she is broken down!
How Moab has turned her back with shame!’
So Moab shall be a derision
And a dismay to all those about her.”

    and every waist is covered with sackcloth.(C)
38 On all the roofs in Moab
    and in the public squares(D)
there is nothing but mourning,
    for I have broken Moab
    like a jar(E) that no one wants,”
declares the Lord.
39 “How shattered(F) she is! How they wail!
    How Moab turns her back in shame!
Moab has become an object of ridicule,(G)
    an object of horror to all those around her.”
