⁵Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

⁵“The lamp of a wicked man is snuffed out;^(A)
the flame of his fire stops burning.^(B)

⁶The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

⁶The light in his tent^(A) becomes dark;^(B)
the lamp beside him goes out.^(C)

¹⁷How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger.

¹⁷“Yet how often is the lamp of the wicked snuffed out?^(A)
How often does calamity^(B) come upon them,
the fate God allots in his anger?^(C)
