²¹ to those who long for death that does not come,^(A)
    who search for it more than for hidden treasure,^(B)

²⁰ We wait^(A) in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.

¹⁷ I will wait^(A) for the Lord,
    who is hiding^(B) his face from the descendants of Jacob.
I will put my trust in him.^(C)

¹⁸ Yet the Lord longs^(A) to be gracious to you;
    therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.^(B)
For the Lord is a God of justice.^(C)
    Blessed are all who wait for him!^(D)

⁴ Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,^(A)
    who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.^(B)
