40 But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God; Abraham did not do this. 41 You are doing the works of your father!” [So] they said to him, “We are not illegitimate. We have one Father, God.”(A) 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.(B)

40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me,(A) a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.(B) Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.”(C)
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”(D)
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me,(E) for I have come here from God.(F) I have not come on my own;(G) God sent me.(H)
