Jonah 2:2-6

² I called to the Lord in my distress,^(A)
and He answered me.
I cried out for help in the belly of Sheol;^(B)
You heard my voice.^(C)
3 You threw me into the depths,^(D)
into the heart of the seas,^(E)
and the current^[a] overcame me.
All Your breakers and Your billows swept over me.^(F)
4 But I said: I have been banished^(G)
from Your sight,^(H)
yet I will look once more^[b]
toward Your holy temple.^(I)
5 The waters engulfed me up to the neck;^[c](J)
the watery depths overcame me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.^(K)
6 I sank to the foundations of the mountains;^(L)
the earth with its prison bars closed behind me forever!^(M)
But You raised my life^(N) from the Pit, Lord my God!^(O)
