⁸ So they said to Joshua, “^(A)We are your servants.” Then Joshua said to them, “Who are you and where do you come from?”

¹¹ So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, ‘Take provisions in your hand for the journey, and go to meet them, and say to them, “^(A)We are your servants; now then, make a covenant with us.”’

⁴ And the king of Israel replied, “As ^[a]you say, my lord, O king; I am yours, as well as all that I have.”

³² So ^(A)they put sackcloth ^[a]around their waists and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said, “^(B)Your servant Ben-hadad says, ‘Please let ^[b]me live.’” And Ahab said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

¹⁴ Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent messengers to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “^(A)I have done wrong. ^[a]Withdraw from me; whatever you impose on me I will endure.” So the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah the payment of three hundred ^[b]talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
