Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight against the Ammonites, and the Lord gives them over to me, I will be your head.” 10 And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, (A)“The Lord will be witness between us, if we do not do as you say.” 11 So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people (B)made him head and leader over them. And Jephthah spoke all his words (C)before the Lord at (D)Mizpah.

Jephthah answered, “Suppose you take me back to fight the Ammonites and the Lord gives them to me—will I really be your head?”

10 The elders of Gilead replied, “The Lord is our witness;(A) we will certainly do as you say.” 11 So Jephthah went with the elders(B) of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them. And he repeated(C) all his words before the Lord in Mizpah.(D)
