Amplified Bible
3 Jesus replied to them, “Have you not even read [in the Scriptures] what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him—(A) 4 how he went into the house of God, and took and ate the [a]consecrated bread, which is not lawful [for anyone] to eat except the priests alone, and [how he also] gave it to the men who were with him?”(B) 5 Jesus was saying to them, “The Son of Man (the Messiah) is Lord [even] of the Sabbath.”

3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?(A) 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat.(B) And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man(C) is Lord of the Sabbath.”
