48 Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea.[a] He meant to pass by them. 49 But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out. 50 [b]They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them, “Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!”

New International Version
48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.(A) They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.
Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(B)
