Matthew 26:6-13
New Life Version
Mary of Bethany Puts Special Perfume on Jesus (A)
6 Jesus was in the town of Bethany in the house of Simon. Simon had a very bad skin disease. 7 A woman came with a jar of perfume. She had given much money for this. As Jesus ate, she poured the perfume on His head. 8 When the followers saw it, they were angry. They said, “Why was this wasted? 9 This perfume could have been sold for much money and given to poor people.”
10 Jesus knew what they were saying. He said to them, “Why are you giving this woman trouble? She has done a good thing to Me. 11 You will have poor people with you all the time. But you will not have Me with you all the time. 12 She put this perfume on My body to make it ready for the grave. 13 For sure, I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in all the world, this woman will be remembered for what she has done.”

Jesus Anointed at Bethany(A)(B)
6 While Jesus was in Bethany(C) in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a](D) but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.(E) 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

New Life Version
Mary of Bethany Puts Special Perfume on Jesus (A)
3 Jesus was in the town of Bethany eating in the house of Simon. Simon was a man with a very bad skin disease. A woman came with a jar of special perfume. She had given much money for this. She broke the jar and poured the special perfume on the head of Jesus. 4 Some of them were angry. They said, “Why was this special perfume wasted? 5 This perfume could have been sold for much money and given to poor people.” They spoke against her.
6 Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why are you giving her trouble? She has done a good thing to Me. 7 You will have poor people with you all the time. Whenever you want, you can do something good for them. You will not have Me all the time. 8 She did what she could. She put this perfume on My body to make Me ready for the grave. 9 For sure, I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in all the world, this woman will be remembered for what she has done.”

6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want.(C) But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could.
