15 Every year at the time of Passover the governor would free one person from prison. This was always a person the people wanted to be set free. 16 At that time there was a man in prison who was known to be very bad. His name was Barabbas.[a]

Matthew 27:14-16
New International Version
14 But Jesus made no reply,(A) not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor.
15 Now it was the governor’s custom at the festival to release a prisoner(B) chosen by the crowd. 16 At that time they had a well-known prisoner whose name was Jesus[a] Barabbas.
