²⁹ Now ^(A)if your right eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, ^[a]than for your whole body to be thrown into ^[b](B)hell. ³⁰ And ^(C)if your right hand is causing you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; for it is better for you ^[c]to lose one of the parts of your body, ^[d]than for your whole body to go into ^[e](D)hell.

³¹ “Now it was said, ‘^(E)Whoever sends his wife away is to give her a certificate of divorce’; ^32 (F)but I say to you that everyone who ^[f]divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a ^[g]divorced woman commits adultery.

³³ “Again, ^(G)you have heard that ^[h]the ancients were told, ‘^[i](H)You shall not ^[j]make false vows, but shall fulfill your ^[k]vows to the Lord.’ ³⁴ But I say to you, ^(I)take no oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is ^(J)the throne of God, ³⁵ nor by the earth, for it is the ^(K)footstool of His feet, nor ^[l]by Jerusalem, for it is ^(L)the city of the great King. ³⁶ Nor shall you take an oath by your head, for you cannot make a single hair white or black. ³⁷ But make sure your statement is, ‘^[m]Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is ^[n]of ^(M)evil origin.

³⁸ “^(N)You have heard that it was said, ‘^(O)Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ ³⁹ But I say to you, do not show opposition against an evil person; but ^(P)whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other toward him also. ⁴⁰ And if anyone wants to sue you and take your ^[o]tunic, let him have your ^[p]cloak also. ⁴¹ Whoever ^[q]forces you to go one mile, go with him two. ^42 (Q)Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

⁴³ “^(R)You have heard that it was said, ‘^(S)You shall love your neighbor ^(T)and hate your enemy.’ ⁴⁴ But I say to you, ^(U)love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, ⁴⁵ so that you may prove yourselves to be ^(V)sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. ⁴⁶ For ^(W)if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Even the tax collectors, do they not do the same? ⁴⁷ And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Even the Gentiles, do they not do the same? ⁴⁸ Therefore ^(X)you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather ^(A)fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in ^[a](B)hell.

⁹ And ^(A)if your eye is causing you to sin, tear it out and throw it away from you. It is better for you to enter life with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into the ^[a](B)fiery hell.

¹⁵ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one ^[a](A)proselyte; and when he becomes one, you ^[b]make him twice as much a son of ^[c](B)hell as yourselves.

³³ You snakes, ^(A)you ^[a]offspring of vipers, how ^[b]will you escape the ^[c]sentence of ^[d](B)hell?

⁴³ And ^(A)if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed, than, having your two hands, to go into ^[a](B)hell, into the ^(C)unquenchable fire.^{[b] 45} And if your foot is causing you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life without a foot, than, having your two feet, to be thrown into ^[c](D)hell.^{[d] 47} And ^(E)if your eye is causing you to sin, throw it away; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be thrown into ^[e](F)hell, ^48 (G)where their worm does not die, and ^(H)the fire is not extinguished. ⁴⁹ For everyone will be salted with fire. ⁵⁰ Salt is good; but ^(I)if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you ^[f]make it salty again? ^(J)Have salt in yourselves, and ^(K)be at peace with one another.”

⁵ But I will warn you whom to fear: ^(A)fear the One who, after He has killed someone, has the power to throw that person into ^[a](B)hell; yes, I tell you, fear ^[b]Him!

⁶ And ^(A)the tongue is a fire, the very world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set among ^[a]our body’s parts as that which ^(B)defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our ^[b]life, and is set on fire by ^[c](C)hell.
