⁵But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

⁵But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is ‘devoted to God,’

⁵But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, ^(A)“Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God”—

⁶And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

⁶they are not to ‘honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

⁶then he need not honor his father ^[a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the ^[b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
