⁵⁹The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin^(A) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.

⁵⁹Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

27 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed.^(A)
