⁴That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

New International Version

⁴so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.^(A)

⁷But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

⁷And when you pray, do not keep on babbling^(A) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.^(B)
