2 The noise of a whip
And the noise of rattling wheels,
Of galloping horses,
Of [a]clattering chariots!
3 Horsemen charge with bright sword and glittering spear.
There is a multitude of slain,
A great number of bodies,
Countless corpses—
They stumble over the corpses—
4 Because of the multitude of [b]harlotries of the [c]seductive harlot,
(A)The mistress of sorceries,
Who sells nations through her harlotries,
And families through her sorceries.
5 “Behold, I am (B)against you,” says the Lord of hosts;
(C)“I will lift your skirts over your face,
I will show the nations your nakedness,
And the kingdoms your shame.
6 I will cast abominable filth upon you,
Make you (D)vile,[d]
And make you (E)a spectacle.
7 It shall come to pass that all who look upon you
(F)Will flee from you, and say,
(G)‘Nineveh is laid waste!
(H)Who will bemoan her?’
Where shall I seek comforters for you?”

2 The crack of whips,
the clatter of wheels,
galloping horses
and jolting chariots!
3 Charging cavalry,
flashing swords
and glittering spears!
Many casualties,
piles of dead,
bodies without number,
people stumbling over the corpses(A)—
4 all because of the wanton lust of a prostitute,
alluring, the mistress of sorceries,(B)
who enslaved nations by her prostitution(C)
and peoples by her witchcraft.
5 “I am against(D) you,” declares the Lord Almighty.
“I will lift your skirts(E) over your face.
I will show the nations your nakedness(F)
and the kingdoms your shame.
6 I will pelt you with filth,(G)
I will treat you with contempt(H)
and make you a spectacle.(I)
7 All who see you will flee(J) from you and say,
‘Nineveh(K) is in ruins(L)—who will mourn for her?’(M)
Where can I find anyone to comfort(N) you?”
