33 And your children (A)shall be shepherds in the wilderness (B)forty years and shall (C)suffer for your faithlessness, until the last of your dead bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 (D)According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, (E)forty days, a year for each day, you shall bear your iniquity forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.’ 35 (F)I, the Lord, have spoken. Surely this will I do to all (G)this wicked congregation who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall come to a full end, and there they shall die.”

33 Your children will be shepherds here for forty years,(A) suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness. 34 For forty years(B)—one year for each of the forty days you explored the land(C)—you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’ 35 I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will surely do these things(D) to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. Your fathers did this, (A)when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that the Lord had given them. 10 (B)And the Lord's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying, 11 ‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, (C)from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land that I swore to give (D)to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me, 12 none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the (E)Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for (F)they have wholly followed the Lord.’ 13 And the Lord's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them (G)wander in the wilderness forty years, until (H)all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lord was gone. 14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers' place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the Lord against Israel!

This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh Barnea to look over the land.(A) After they went up to the Valley of Eshkol(B) and viewed the land, they discouraged the Israelites from entering the land the Lord had given them. 10 The Lord’s anger was aroused(C) that day and he swore this oath:(D) 11 ‘Because they have not followed me wholeheartedly, not one of those who were twenty years old or more(E) when they came up out of Egypt(F) will see the land I promised on oath(G) to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob(H) 12 not one except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they followed the Lord wholeheartedly.’(I) 13 The Lord’s anger burned against Israel(J) and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.(K)

14 “And here you are, a brood of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the Lord even more angry with Israel.(L)
