²² When they had gone up into ^(A)the Negev, ^[a]they came to Hebron where ^(B)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^[b]descendants of ^(C)Anak were. (Hebron was built seven years before ^(D)Zoan in Egypt.)

¹³ So Joshua ^(A)blessed him and ^(B)gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. ¹⁴ Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he followed the Lord God of Israel fully. ¹⁵ Now the name of Hebron was previously ^[a]Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. ^(C)Then the land was at rest from war.

¹³ So ^(C)to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave ^(D)Hebron, the city of refuge for the one who commits manslaughter, with its pasture lands, ^(E)Libnah with its pasture lands,
