²² When they had gone up into ^(A)the Negev, ^[a]they came to Hebron where ^(B)Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the ^[b]descendants of ^(C)Anak were. (Hebron was built seven years before ^(D)Zoan in Egypt.)

^10 (A)So Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (the name of Hebron was previously Kiriath-arba); and they struck Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

²⁰ Then they gave Hebron to Caleb, ^(A)as Moses had ^[a]promised; and he drove out from there ^(B)the three sons of Anak.

David King over All Israel

5 ^(A)Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and ^[a]said, “Behold, we are ^(B)your bone and your flesh.

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David ^(A)made a covenant with them before the Lord in Hebron; then ^(B)they anointed David king over Israel.

⁵ At Hebron ^(A)he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned for thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

¹³ Meanwhile ^(A)David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron; and more sons and daughters were born to David.
