¹⁷for I will surely do you great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do; come, curse this people for me.”^(A)

¹⁷because I will reward you handsomely^(A) and do whatever you say. Come and put a curse^(B) on these people for me.”

⁷Then Balaam^[a] uttered his oracle, saying,

“Balak has brought me from Aram,
the king of Moab from the eastern mountains:
‘Come, curse Jacob for me.
Come, denounce Israel!’^(A)

“Balak brought me from Aram,^(C)
the king of Moab from the eastern mountains.^(D)
