The Israelites captured the Midianite women(A) and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder.(B) 10 They burned(C) all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps.(D) 11 They took all the plunder and spoils, including the people and animals,(E) 12 and brought the captives, spoils(F) and plunder to Moses and Eleazar the priest and the Israelite assembly(G) at their camp on the plains of Moab, by the Jordan across from Jericho.(H)

13 Moses, Eleazar the priest and all the leaders of the community went to meet them outside the camp. 14 Moses was angry with the officers of the army(I)—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle.

15 “Have you allowed all the women to live?” he asked them. 16 “They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice(J) and enticed the Israelites to be unfaithful to the Lord in the Peor incident,(K) so that a plague(L) struck the Lord’s people.

And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

15 And Moses said to them: “Have you kept (B)all the women alive? 16 Look, (C)these women caused the children of Israel, through the (D)counsel of Balaam, to trespass against the Lord in the incident of Peor, and (E)there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
