The towns are to be reserved for their dwelling places and the grazing lands[a] are to be reserved for their cattle, livestock, and all their animals. The grazing lands that you are to reserve for use by the descendants of Levi are to extend 1,000 cubits[b] from the walls of the town. You are to measure from outside the wall of the town on the east side 2,000 cubits,[c] on the south side 2,000 cubits,[d] on the west side 2,000 cubits,[e] and on the north side 2,000 cubits,[f] with the town placed at the center. This reserved area is to serve as grazing[g] land for their towns.

“The pasturelands around the towns that you give the Levites will extend a thousand cubits[a] from the town wall. Outside the town, measure two thousand cubits[b](B) on the east side, two thousand on the south side, two thousand on the west and two thousand on the north, with the town in the center. They will have this area as pastureland for the towns.(C)
