²⁸ So tell them, ‘As surely as I live,^(A) declares the Lord, I will do to you^(B) the very thing I heard you say: ²⁹ In this wilderness your bodies will fall^(C)—every one of you twenty years old or more^(D) who was counted in the census^(E) and who has grumbled against me. ³⁰ Not one of you will enter the land^(F) I swore with uplifted hand^(G) to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh^(H) and Joshua son of Nun.^{(I) 31} As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected.^{(J) 32} But as for you, your bodies will fall^(K) in this wilderness.

³⁰ Instead, everyone will die for their own sin;^(A) whoever eats sour grapes—their own teeth will be set on edge.

⁴ For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child—both alike belong to me. The one who sins^(A) is the one who will die.^(B)
