²⁹For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

²⁹For it has been granted to you^(A) on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer^(B) for him,

³⁰Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

³⁰since you are going through the same struggle^(A) you saw^(B) I had, and now hear^(C) that I still have.

²⁷For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

²⁷Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.
