The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord(A)

105 Oh, (B)give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
(C)Make known His deeds among the peoples!
Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
(D)Talk of all His wondrous works!
Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
Seek the Lord and His strength;
(E)Seek His face evermore!
(F)Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
O seed of Abraham His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

He is the Lord our God;
(G)His judgments are in all the earth.
He (H)remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
(I)The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, (J)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
12 (K)When they were few in number,
Indeed very few, (L)and strangers in it.

13 When they went from one nation to another,
From one kingdom to another people,
14 (M)He permitted no one to do them wrong;
Yes, (N)He rebuked kings for their sakes,
15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”

16 Moreover (O)He called for a famine in the land;
He destroyed all the (P)provision of bread.
17 (Q)He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who (R)was sold as a slave.
18 (S)They hurt his feet with fetters,
[a]He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
(T)The word of the Lord tested him.
20 (U)The king sent and released him,
The ruler of the people let him go free.
21 (V)He made him lord of his house,
And ruler of all his possessions,
22 To [b]bind his princes at his pleasure,
And teach his elders wisdom.

23 (W)Israel also came into Egypt,
And Jacob dwelt (X)in the land of Ham.
24 (Y)He increased His people greatly,
And made them stronger than their enemies.
25 (Z)He turned their heart to hate His people,
To deal craftily with His servants.

26 (AA)He sent Moses His servant,
And Aaron whom He had chosen.
27 They (AB)performed His signs among them,
And wonders in the land of Ham.
28 He sent darkness, and made it dark;
And they did not rebel against His word.
29 (AC)He turned their waters into blood,
And killed their fish.
30 (AD)Their land abounded with frogs,
Even in the chambers of their kings.
31 (AE)He spoke, and there came swarms of flies,
And lice in all their territory.
32 (AF)He gave them hail for rain,
And flaming fire in their land.
33 (AG)He struck their vines also, and their fig trees,
And splintered the trees of their territory.
34 (AH)He spoke, and locusts came,
Young locusts without number,
35 And ate up all the vegetation in their land,
And devoured the fruit of their ground.
36 (AI)He also [c]destroyed all the firstborn in their land,
(AJ)The first of all their strength.

37 (AK)He also brought them out with silver and gold,
And there was none feeble among His tribes.
38 (AL)Egypt was glad when they departed,
For the fear of them had fallen upon them.
39 (AM)He spread a cloud for a covering,
And fire to give light in the night.
40 (AN)The people asked, and He brought quail,
And (AO)satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
41 (AP)He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
It ran in the dry places like a river.

42 For He remembered (AQ)His holy promise,
And Abraham His servant.
43 He brought out His people with joy,
His chosen ones with [d]gladness.
44 (AR)He gave them the lands of the [e]Gentiles,
And they inherited the labor of the nations,
45 (AS)That they might observe His statutes
And keep His laws.

[f]Praise the Lord!

Joy in Forgiveness of Israel’s Sins

106 Praise[g] the Lord!

(AT)Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.

Who can [h]utter the mighty acts of the Lord?
Who can declare all His praise?
Blessed are those who keep justice,
And [i]he who (AU)does righteousness at (AV)all times!

(AW)Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people.
Oh, visit me with Your salvation,
That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,
That I may glory with [j]Your inheritance.

(AX)We have sinned with our fathers,
We have committed iniquity,
We have done wickedly.
Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders;
They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies,
(AY)But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea.

Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,
(AZ)That He might make His mighty power known.
(BA)He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up;
So (BB)He led them through the depths,
As through the wilderness.
10 He (BC)saved them from the hand of him who hated them,
And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11 (BD)The waters covered their enemies;
There was not one of them left.
12 (BE)Then they believed His words;
They sang His praise.

13 (BF)They soon forgot His works;
They did not wait for His counsel,
14 (BG)But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness,
And tested God in the desert.
15 (BH)And He gave them their request,
But (BI)sent leanness into their soul.

16 When (BJ)they envied Moses in the camp,
And Aaron the saint of the Lord,
17 (BK)The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan,
And covered the faction of Abiram.
18 (BL)A fire was kindled in their company;
The flame burned up the wicked.

19 (BM)They made a calf in Horeb,
And worshiped the molded image.
20 Thus (BN)they changed their glory
Into the image of an ox that eats grass.
21 They forgot God their Savior,
Who had done great things in Egypt,
22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,
Awesome things by the Red Sea.
23 (BO)Therefore He said that He would destroy them,
Had not Moses His chosen one (BP)stood before Him in the breach,
To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them.

24 Then they despised (BQ)the pleasant land;
They (BR)did not believe His word,
25 (BS)But complained in their tents,
And did not heed the voice of the Lord.
26 (BT)Therefore He raised His hand in an oath against them,
(BU)To [k]overthrow them in the wilderness,
27 (BV)To [l]overthrow their descendants among the [m]nations,
And to scatter them in the lands.

28 (BW)They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor,
And ate sacrifices [n]made to the dead.
29 Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds,
And the plague broke out among them.
30 (BX)Then Phinehas stood up and intervened,
And the plague was stopped.
31 And that was accounted to him (BY)for righteousness
To all generations forevermore.

32 (BZ)They angered Him also at the waters of [o]strife,
(CA)So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;
33 (CB)Because they rebelled against His Spirit,
So that he spoke rashly with his lips.

34 (CC)They did not destroy the peoples,
(CD)Concerning whom the Lord had commanded them,
35 (CE)But they mingled with the Gentiles
And learned their works;
36 (CF)They served their idols,
(CG)Which became a snare to them.
37 (CH)They even sacrificed their sons
And their daughters to (CI)demons,
38 And shed innocent blood,
The blood of their sons and daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And (CJ)the land was polluted with blood.
39 Thus they [p]were (CK)defiled by their own works,
And (CL)played[q] the harlot by their own deeds.

40 Therefore (CM)the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people,
So that He abhorred (CN)His own inheritance.
41 And (CO)He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles,
And those who hated them ruled over them.
42 Their enemies also oppressed them,
And they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43 (CP)Many times He delivered them;
But they rebelled in their counsel,
And were brought low for their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless He regarded their affliction,
When (CQ)He heard their cry;
45 (CR)And for their sake He remembered His covenant,
And (CS)relented (CT)according to the multitude of His mercies.
46 (CU)He also made them to be pitied
By all those who carried them away captive.

47 (CV)Save us, O Lord our God,
And gather us from among the Gentiles,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
To triumph in Your praise.

48 (CW)Blessed be the Lord God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting!
And let all the people say, “Amen!”

[r]Praise the Lord!

23 Then Israel entered Egypt;(AH)
    Jacob resided(AI) as a foreigner in the land of Ham.(AJ)

Praise the Lord.[a](BW)

Psalm 106(BX)

Praise the Lord.[b](BY)

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;(BZ)
    his love endures forever.(CA)

Who can proclaim the mighty acts(CB) of the Lord
    or fully declare his praise?
Blessed are those who act justly,(CC)
    who always do what is right.(CD)

Remember me,(CE) Lord, when you show favor(CF) to your people,
    come to my aid(CG) when you save them,
that I may enjoy the prosperity(CH) of your chosen ones,(CI)
    that I may share in the joy(CJ) of your nation
    and join your inheritance(CK) in giving praise.

We have sinned,(CL) even as our ancestors(CM) did;
    we have done wrong and acted wickedly.(CN)
When our ancestors were in Egypt,
    they gave no thought(CO) to your miracles;
they did not remember(CP) your many kindnesses,
    and they rebelled by the sea,(CQ) the Red Sea.[c]
Yet he saved them(CR) for his name’s sake,(CS)
    to make his mighty power(CT) known.
He rebuked(CU) the Red Sea, and it dried up;(CV)
    he led them through(CW) the depths as through a desert.
10 He saved them(CX) from the hand of the foe;(CY)
    from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.(CZ)
11 The waters covered(DA) their adversaries;
    not one of them survived.
12 Then they believed his promises
    and sang his praise.(DB)

13 But they soon forgot(DC) what he had done
    and did not wait for his plan to unfold.(DD)
14 In the desert(DE) they gave in to their craving;
    in the wilderness(DF) they put God to the test.(DG)
15 So he gave them(DH) what they asked for,
    but sent a wasting disease(DI) among them.

16 In the camp they grew envious(DJ) of Moses
    and of Aaron, who was consecrated to the Lord.
17 The earth opened(DK) up and swallowed Dathan;(DL)
    it buried the company of Abiram.(DM)
18 Fire blazed(DN) among their followers;
    a flame consumed the wicked.
19 At Horeb they made a calf(DO)
    and worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20 They exchanged their glorious God(DP)
    for an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21 They forgot the God(DQ) who saved them,
    who had done great things(DR) in Egypt,
22 miracles in the land of Ham(DS)
    and awesome deeds(DT) by the Red Sea.
23 So he said he would destroy(DU) them—
    had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach(DV) before him
    to keep his wrath from destroying them.

24 Then they despised(DW) the pleasant land;(DX)
    they did not believe(DY) his promise.
25 They grumbled(DZ) in their tents
    and did not obey the Lord.
26 So he swore(EA) to them with uplifted hand
    that he would make them fall in the wilderness,(EB)
27 make their descendants fall among the nations
    and scatter(EC) them throughout the lands.

28 They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor(ED)
    and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29 they aroused the Lord’s anger(EE) by their wicked deeds,(EF)
    and a plague(EG) broke out among them.
30 But Phinehas(EH) stood up and intervened,
    and the plague was checked.(EI)
31 This was credited to him(EJ) as righteousness
    for endless generations(EK) to come.
32 By the waters of Meribah(EL) they angered the Lord,
    and trouble came to Moses because of them;
33 for they rebelled(EM) against the Spirit(EN) of God,
    and rash words came from Moses’ lips.[d](EO)

34 They did not destroy(EP) the peoples
    as the Lord had commanded(EQ) them,
35 but they mingled(ER) with the nations
    and adopted their customs.
36 They worshiped their idols,(ES)
    which became a snare(ET) to them.
37 They sacrificed their sons(EU)
    and their daughters to false gods.(EV)
38 They shed innocent blood,
    the blood of their sons(EW) and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
    and the land was desecrated by their blood.
39 They defiled themselves(EX) by what they did;
    by their deeds they prostituted(EY) themselves.

40 Therefore the Lord was angry(EZ) with his people
    and abhorred his inheritance.(FA)
41 He gave them into the hands(FB) of the nations,
    and their foes ruled over them.
42 Their enemies oppressed(FC) them
    and subjected them to their power.
43 Many times he delivered them,(FD)
    but they were bent on rebellion(FE)
    and they wasted away in their sin.
44 Yet he took note of their distress
    when he heard their cry;(FF)
45 for their sake he remembered his covenant(FG)
    and out of his great love(FH) he relented.(FI)
46 He caused all who held them captive
    to show them mercy.(FJ)

47 Save us,(FK) Lord our God,
    and gather us(FL) from the nations,
that we may give thanks(FM) to your holy name(FN)
    and glory in your praise.

48 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
    from everlasting to everlasting.

Let all the people say, “Amen!”(FO)

Praise the Lord.
