God Praised and Pleas to Give Victory.

A Song, a Psalm of David.

108 (A)My heart is steadfast, God;
I will sing, I will sing praises also with my [a]soul.
Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!
I will give thanks to You, Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
For Your (B)mercy is great (C)above the heavens,
And Your truth reaches to the skies.
(D)Be exalted above the heavens, God,
And may Your glory be above all the earth.
(E)So that Your beloved may be rescued,
Save with Your right hand, and answer me!

God has spoken in His [b]holiness:
“I will triumph, I will divide up Shechem,
And measure out the Valley of Succoth.
Gilead is Mine, Manasseh is Mine;
Ephraim also is the [c]helmet of My head;
(F)Judah is My [d]scepter.
Moab is My washbowl;
I will throw My sandal over Edom;
I will shout aloud over Philistia.”

10 (G)Who will bring me into the fortified city?
Who [e]will lead me to Edom?
11 God, have You Yourself not (H)rejected us?
And will You not go forth with our armies, God?
12 Give us help against the enemy,
For (I)deliverance [f]by man is worthless.
13 [g]Through God we will do valiantly,
And (J)it is He who will trample down our enemies.

Vengeance Invoked upon Adversaries.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

109 (K)God of my praise,
(L)Do not be silent!
For they have opened a [h]wicked and (M)deceitful mouth against me;
They have spoken [i]against me with a (N)lying tongue.
They have also surrounded me with words of hatred,
And have fought against me (O)without cause.
In return (P)for my love they act as my accusers;
But (Q)I am in prayer.
So they have [j](R)repaid me evil for good,
And (S)hatred for my love.

Appoint a wicked person over him,
And may an [k](T)accuser stand at his right hand.
When he is judged, may he (U)come out guilty,
And may his (V)prayer become sin.
May (W)his days be few;
May (X)another take his office.
May his (Y)children be fatherless,
And his (Z)wife a widow.
10 May his (AA)children wander about and beg;
And may they (AB)seek sustenance [l]far from their ruined homes.
11 May (AC)the creditor [m]seize everything that he has,
And may (AD)strangers plunder the product of his labor.
12 May there be none to [n](AE)extend kindness to him,
Nor (AF)any to be gracious to his fatherless children.
13 May his (AG)descendants be [o]eliminated;
May their (AH)name be wiped out in a following generation.

14 May (AI)the guilt of his fathers be remembered [p]before the Lord,
And do not let the sin of his mother be (AJ)wiped out.
15 May (AK)they be before the Lord continually,
So that He may (AL)eliminate their memory from the earth;
16 Because he did not remember to show mercy,
But persecuted the (AM)afflicted and needy person,
And the (AN)despondent in heart, to (AO)put them to death.
17 He also loved cursing, so (AP)it came to him;
And he did not delight in blessing, so it was far from him.
18 But he (AQ)clothed himself with cursing as with his garment,
And it (AR)entered [q]his body like water,
And like oil into his bones.
19 May it be to him as (AS)a garment with which he covers himself,
And as a belt which he constantly (AT)wears around himself.
20 May this be the (AU)reward of my accusers from the Lord,
And of those who (AV)speak evil against my soul.

21 But You, [r]God, the Lord, deal kindly with me (AW)for the sake of Your name;
Because (AX)Your mercy is good, rescue me;
22 For (AY)I am afflicted and needy,
And [s]my heart is (AZ)wounded within me.
23 I am passing (BA)like a shadow when it lengthens;
I am shaken off (BB)like the locust.
24 My (BC)knees [t]are weak from (BD)fasting,
And my flesh has grown lean, without fatness.
25 I also have become a (BE)disgrace to them;
When they see me, they (BF)shake their head.

26 (BG)Help me, Lord my God;
Save me according to Your mercy.
27 [u]And may they (BH)know that this is Your hand;
You, Lord, have done it.
28 (BI)They will curse, but You bless;
When they arise, they will be ashamed,
But Your (BJ)servant will be glad.
29 [v]May (BK)my accusers be clothed with dishonor,
And [w]may they (BL)cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

30 With my mouth I will give thanks abundantly to the Lord;
And (BM)I will praise Him in the midst of many.
31 For He stands (BN)at the right hand of the needy,
To save him from those who (BO)judge his soul.

The Lord Gives Dominion to the King.

A Psalm of David.

110 (BP)The Lord says to my Lord:
(BQ)Sit at My right hand
Until I make (BR)Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
The Lord will stretch out Your strong (BS)scepter from Zion, saying,
(BT)Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
Your (BU)people [x]will volunteer freely on the day of Your [y]power;
(BV)In [z]holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn,
[aa]Your youth are to You as the (BW)dew.

(BX)The Lord has sworn and will (BY)not [ab]change His mind,
“You are a (BZ)priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is (CA)at Your right hand;
He [ac]will (CB)shatter kings in the (CC)day of His wrath.
He will (CD)judge among the nations,
He [ad]will fill them with (CE)corpses,
He [ae]will (CF)shatter the [af]chief men over a broad country.
He will (CG)drink from the brook by the wayside;
Therefore He will (CH)lift up His head.

The Lord Praised for His Goodness.

111 [ag]Praise [ah]the Lord!
I (CI)will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the (CJ)company of the upright and in the assembly.
(CK)Great are the works of the Lord;
They are [ai](CL)studied by all who delight in them.
[aj](CM)Splendid and majestic is His work,
And (CN)His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His [ak]wonders [al]to be remembered;
The Lord is (CO)gracious and compassionate.
He has (CP)given [am]food to those who [an]fear Him;
He will (CQ)remember His covenant forever.
He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the inheritance of the nations.

The works of His hands are [ao](CR)truth and justice;
All His precepts (CS)are trustworthy.
They are (CT)upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in [ap](CU)truth and uprightness.
He has sent (CV)redemption to His people;
He has [aq]ordained His covenant forever;
(CW)Holy and [ar]awesome is His name.
10 The [as](CX)fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
All those who [at]follow (CY)His commandments have a good understanding;
His (CZ)praise endures forever.

Prosperity of One Who Fears the Lord.

112 [au]Praise [av]the Lord!
(DA)Blessed is a person who [aw]fears the Lord,
Who greatly (DB)delights in His commandments.
His [ax](DC)descendants will be mighty [ay]on the earth;
The generation of the (DD)upright will be blessed.
(DE)Wealth and riches are in his house,
And his righteousness endures forever.
Light shines in the darkness (DF)for the upright;
He is (DG)gracious, compassionate, and righteous.
It goes well for a person who (DH)is gracious and lends;
He will [az]maintain his cause in judgment.
For he will (DI)never be shaken;
The (DJ)righteous will be [ba]remembered forever.

He will not fear (DK)bad news;
His (DL)heart is steadfast, (DM)trusting in the Lord.
His (DN)heart is firm, he (DO)will not fear,
[bb]But will (DP)look with satisfaction on his enemies.
[bc]He (DQ)has given freely to the poor,
His righteousness endures forever;
His (DR)horn will be exalted in honor.

10 The (DS)wicked will see it and be [bd]vexed,
He will (DT)gnash his teeth and (DU)melt away;
The (DV)desire of the wicked will perish.

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart, O God, is steadfast;(C)
    I will sing(D) and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!(E)
    I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love,(F) higher than the heavens;
    your faithfulness(G) reaches to the skies.(H)
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;(I)
    let your glory be over all the earth.(J)

Save us and help us with your right hand,(K)
    that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken(L) from his sanctuary:(M)
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem(N)
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.(O)
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah(P) is my scepter.
Moab(Q) is my washbasin,
    on Edom(R) I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia(S) I shout in triumph.”

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?(T)
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.(U)
13 With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down(V) our enemies.

Psalm 109

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

My God, whom I praise,(W)
    do not remain silent,(X)
for people who are wicked and deceitful(Y)
    have opened their mouths against me;
    they have spoken against me with lying tongues.(Z)
With words of hatred(AA) they surround me;
    they attack me without cause.(AB)
In return for my friendship they accuse me,
    but I am a man of prayer.(AC)
They repay me evil for good,(AD)
    and hatred for my friendship.

Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy;
    let an accuser(AE) stand at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him be found guilty,(AF)
    and may his prayers condemn(AG) him.
May his days be few;(AH)
    may another take his place(AI) of leadership.
May his children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow.(AJ)
10 May his children be wandering beggars;(AK)
    may they be driven[b] from their ruined homes.
11 May a creditor(AL) seize all he has;
    may strangers plunder(AM) the fruits of his labor.(AN)
12 May no one extend kindness to him
    or take pity(AO) on his fatherless children.
13 May his descendants be cut off,(AP)
    their names blotted out(AQ) from the next generation.
14 May the iniquity of his fathers(AR) be remembered before the Lord;
    may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
15 May their sins always remain before(AS) the Lord,
    that he may blot out their name(AT) from the earth.

16 For he never thought of doing a kindness,
    but hounded to death the poor
    and the needy(AU) and the brokenhearted.(AV)
17 He loved to pronounce a curse—
    may it come back on him.(AW)
He found no pleasure in blessing—
    may it be far from him.
18 He wore cursing(AX) as his garment;
    it entered into his body like water,(AY)
    into his bones like oil.
19 May it be like a cloak wrapped(AZ) about him,
    like a belt tied forever around him.
20 May this be the Lord’s payment(BA) to my accusers,
    to those who speak evil(BB) of me.

21 But you, Sovereign Lord,
    help me for your name’s sake;(BC)
    out of the goodness of your love,(BD) deliver me.(BE)
22 For I am poor and needy,
    and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I fade away like an evening shadow;(BF)
    I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees give(BG) way from fasting;(BH)
    my body is thin and gaunt.(BI)
25 I am an object of scorn(BJ) to my accusers;
    when they see me, they shake their heads.(BK)

26 Help me,(BL) Lord my God;
    save me according to your unfailing love.
27 Let them know(BM) that it is your hand,
    that you, Lord, have done it.
28 While they curse,(BN) may you bless;
    may those who attack me be put to shame,
    but may your servant rejoice.(BO)
29 May my accusers be clothed with disgrace
    and wrapped in shame(BP) as in a cloak.

30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the Lord;
    in the great throng(BQ) of worshipers I will praise him.
31 For he stands at the right hand(BR) of the needy,
    to save their lives from those who would condemn them.

108 O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.

I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;

That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.

God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.

Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;

Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.

10 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?

11 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?

12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

109 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the Lord continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

21 But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.

25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:

27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.

28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

110 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.

Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.

The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.

He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.

111 Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.

They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

112 Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.

His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.

10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.
