36 Psalmus ipsi David. Noli aemulari in malignantibus, neque zelaveris facientes iniquitatem:
2 quoniam tamquam foenum velociter arescent, et quemadmodum olera herbarum cito decident.
3 Spera in Domino, et fac bonitatem; et inhabita terram, et pasceris in divitiis ejus.
4 Delectare in Domino, et dabit tibi petitiones cordis tui.
5 Revela Domino viam tuam, et spera in eo, et ipse faciet.
6 Et educet quasi lumen justitiam tuam, et judicium tuum tamquam meridiem.
7 Subditus esto Domino, et ora eum. Noli aemulari in eo qui prosperatur in via sua; in homine faciente injustitias.
8 Desine ab ira, et derelinque furorem; noli aemulari ut maligneris.
9 Quoniam qui malignantur exterminabuntur; sustinentes autem Dominum, ipsi haereditabunt terram.
10 Et adhuc pusillum, et non erit peccator; et quaeres locum ejus, et non invenies.
11 Mansueti autem haereditabunt terram, et delectabuntur in multitudine pacis.
12 Observabit peccator justum, et stridebit super eum dentibus suis.
13 Dominus autem irridebit eum, quoniam prospicit quod veniet dies ejus.
14 Gladium evaginaverunt peccatores; intenderunt arcum suum: ut dejiciant pauperem et inopem, ut trucident rectos corde.
15 Gladius eorum intret in corda ipsorum, et arcus eorum confringatur.
16 Melius est modicum justo, super divitias peccatorum multas:
17 quoniam brachia peccatorum conterentur: confirmat autem justos Dominus.
18 Novit Dominus dies immaculatorum, et haereditas eorum in aeternum erit.
19 Non confundentur in tempore malo, et in diebus famis saturabuntur:
20 quia peccatores peribunt. Inimici vero Domini mox ut honorificati fuerint et exaltati, deficientes quemadmodum fumus deficient.
21 Mutuabitur peccator, et non solvet; justus autem miseretur et tribuet:
22 quia benedicentes ei haereditabunt terram; maledicentes autem ei disperibunt.
23 Apud Dominum gressus hominis dirigentur, et viam ejus volet.
24 Cum ceciderit, non collidetur, quia Dominus supponit manum suam.
25 Junior fui, etenim senui; et non vidi justum derelictum, nec semen ejus quaerens panem.
26 Tota die miseretur et commodat; et semen illius in benedictione erit.
27 Declina a malo, et fac bonum, et inhabita in saeculum saeculi:
28 quia Dominus amat judicium, et non derelinquet sanctos suos: in aeternum conservabuntur. Injusti punientur, et semen impiorum peribit.
29 Justi autem haereditabunt terram, et inhabitabunt in saeculum saeculi super eam.
30 Os justi meditabitur sapientiam, et lingua ejus loquetur judicium.
31 Lex Dei ejus in corde ipsius, et non supplantabuntur gressus ejus.
32 Considerat peccator justum, et quaerit mortificare eum.
33 Dominus autem non derelinquet eum in manibus ejus, nec damnabit eum cum judicabitur illi.
34 Exspecta Dominum, et custodi viam ejus, et exaltabit te ut haereditate capias terram: cum perierint peccatores, videbis.
35 Vidi impium superexaltatum, et elevatum sicut cedros Libani:
36 et transivi, et ecce non erat; et quaesivi eum, et non est inventus locus ejus.
37 Custodi innocentiam, et vide aequitatem, quoniam sunt reliquiae homini pacifico.
38 Injusti autem disperibunt simul; reliquiae impiorum interibunt.
39 Salus autem justorum a Domino; et protector eorum in tempore tribulationis.
40 Et adjuvabit eos Dominus, et liberabit eos; et eruet eos a peccatoribus, et salvabit eos, quia speraverunt in eo.

2 Domine, ne in furore tuo arguas me, neque in ira tua corripias me:
3 quoniam sagittae tuae infixae sunt mihi, et confirmasti super me manum tuam.
4 Non est sanitas in carne mea, a facie irae tuae; non est pax ossibus meis, a facie peccatorum meorum:
5 quoniam iniquitates meae supergressae sunt caput meum, et sicut onus grave gravatae sunt super me.
6 Putruerunt et corruptae sunt cicatrices meae, a facie insipientiae meae.
7 Miser factus sum et curvatus sum usque in finem; tota die contristatus ingrediebar.
8 Quoniam lumbi mei impleti sunt illusionibus, et non est sanitas in carne mea.
9 Afflictus sum, et humiliatus sum nimis; rugiebam a gemitu cordis mei.
10 Domine, ante te omne desiderium meum, et gemitus meus a te non est absconditus.
11 Cor meum conturbatum est; dereliquit me virtus mea, et lumen oculorum meorum, et ipsum non est mecum.
12 Amici mei et proximi mei adversum me appropinquaverunt, et steterunt; et qui juxta me erant, de longe steterunt: et vim faciebant qui quaerebant animam meam.
13 Et qui inquirebant mala mihi, locuti sunt vanitates, et dolos tota die meditabantur.
14 Ego autem, tamquam surdus, non audiebam; et sicut mutus non aperiens os suum.
15 Et factus sum sicut homo non audiens, et non habens in ore suo redargutiones.
16 Quoniam in te, Domine, speravi; tu exaudies me, Domine Deus meus.
17 Quia dixi: Nequando supergaudeant mihi inimici mei; et dum commoventur pedes mei, super me magna locuti sunt.
18 Quoniam ego in flagella paratus sum, et dolor meus in conspectu meo semper.
19 Quoniam iniquitatem meam annuntiabo, et cogitabo pro peccato meo.
20 Inimici autem mei vivunt, et confirmati sunt super me: et multiplicati sunt qui oderunt me inique.
21 Qui retribuunt mala pro bonis detrahebant mihi, quoniam sequebar bonitatem.
22 Ne derelinquas me, Domine Deus meus; ne discesseris a me.

2 Dixi: Custodiam vias meas: ut non delinquam in lingua mea. Posui ori meo custodiam, cum consisteret peccator adversum me.
3 Obmutui, et humiliatus sum, et silui a bonis; et dolor meus renovatus est.
4 Concaluit cor meum intra me; et in meditatione mea exardescet ignis.
5 Locutus sum in lingua mea: Notum fac mihi, Domine, finem meum, et numerum dierum meorum quis est, ut sciam quid desit mihi.
6 Ecce mensurabiles posuisti dies meos, et substantia mea tamquam nihilum ante te. Verumtamen universa vanitas, omnis homo vivens.
7 Verumtamen in imagine pertransit homo; sed et frustra conturbatur: thesaurizat, et ignorat cui congregabit ea.
8 Et nunc quae est exspectatio mea: nonne Dominus? et substantia mea apud te est.
9 Ab omnibus iniquitatibus meis erue me: opprobrium insipienti dedisti me.
10 Obmutui, et non aperui os meum, quoniam tu fecisti;
11 amove a me plagas tuas.
12 A fortitudine manus tuae ego defeci in increpationibus: propter iniquitatem corripuisti hominem. Et tabescere fecisti sicut araneam animam ejus: verumtamen vane conturbatur omnis homo.
13 Exaudi orationem meam, Domine, et deprecationem meam; auribus percipe lacrimas meas. Ne sileas, quoniam advena ego sum apud te, et peregrinus sicut omnes patres mei.
14 Remitte mihi, ut refrigerer priusquam abeam et amplius non ero.

2 Exspectans exspectavi Dominum, et intendit mihi.
3 Et exaudivit preces meas, et eduxit me de lacu miseriae et de luto faecis. Et statuit super petram pedes meos, et direxit gressus meos.
4 Et immisit in os meum canticum novum, carmen Deo nostro. Videbunt multi, et timebunt, et sperabunt in Domino.
5 Beatus vir cujus est nomen Domini spes ejus, et non respexit in vanitates et insanias falsas.
6 Multa fecisti tu, Domine Deus meus, mirabilia tua; et cogitationibus tuis non est qui similis sit tibi. Annuntiavi et locutus sum: multiplicati sunt super numerum.
7 Sacrificium et oblationem noluisti; aures autem perfecisti mihi. Holocaustum et pro peccato non postulasti;
8 tunc dixi: Ecce venio. In capite libri scriptum est de me,
9 ut facerem voluntatem tuam. Deus meus, volui, et legem tuam in medio cordis mei.
10 Annuntiavi justitiam tuam in ecclesia magna; ecce labia mea non prohibebo: Domine, tu scisti.
11 Justitiam tuam non abscondi in corde meo; veritatem tuam et salutare tuum dixi; non abscondi misericordiam tuam et veritatem tuam a concilio multo.
12 Tu autem, Domine, ne longe facias miserationes tuas a me; misericordia tua et veritas tua semper susceperunt me.
13 Quoniam circumdederunt me mala quorum non est numerus; comprehenderunt me iniquitates meae, et non potui ut viderem. Multiplicatae sunt super capillos capitis mei, et cor meum dereliquit me.
14 Complaceat tibi, Domine, ut eruas me; Domine, ad adjuvandum me respice.
15 Confundantur et revereantur simul, qui quaerunt animam meam ut auferant eam; convertantur retrorsum et revereantur, qui volunt mihi mala.
16 Ferant confestim confusionem suam, qui dicunt mihi: Euge, euge!
17 Exsultent et laetentur super te omnes quaerentes te; et dicant semper: Magnificetur Dominus, qui diligunt salutare tuum.
18 Ego autem mendicus sum et pauper; Dominus sollicitus est mei. Adjutor meus et protector meus tu es; Deus meus, ne tardaveris.

2 Beatus qui intelligit super egenum et pauperem: in die mala liberabit eum Dominus.
3 Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum ejus.
4 Dominus opem ferat illi super lectum doloris ejus; universum stratum ejus versasti in infirmitate ejus.
5 Ego dixi: Domine, miserere mei; sana animam meam, quia peccavi tibi.
6 Inimici mei dixerunt mala mihi: Quando morietur, et peribit nomen ejus?
7 Et si ingrediebatur ut videret, vana loquebatur; cor ejus congregavit iniquitatem sibi. Egrediebatur foras et loquebatur.
8 In idipsum adversum me susurrabant omnes inimici mei; adversum me cogitabant mala mihi.
9 Verbum iniquum constituerunt adversum me: Numquid qui dormit non adjiciet ut resurgat?
10 Etenim homo pacis meae in quo speravi, qui edebat panes meos, magnificavit super me supplantationem.
11 Tu autem, Domine, miserere mei, et resuscita me; et retribuam eis.
12 In hoc cognovi quoniam voluisti me, quoniam non gaudebit inimicus meus super me.
13 Me autem propter innocentiam suscepisti; et confirmasti me in conspectu tuo in aeternum.

2 Quemadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te, Deus.
3 Sitivit anima mea ad Deum fortem, vivum; quando veniam, et apparebo ante faciem Dei?
4 Fuerunt mihi lacrimae meae panes die ac nocte, dum dicitur mihi quotidie: Ubi est Deus tuus?
5 Haec recordatus sum, et effudi in me animam meam, quoniam transibo in locum tabernaculi admirabilis, usque ad domum Dei, in voce exsultationis et confessionis, sonus epulantis.
6 Quare tristis es, anima mea? et quare conturbas me? Spera in Deo, quoniam adhuc confitebor illi, salutare vultus mei,
7 et Deus meus. Ad meipsum anima mea conturbata est: propterea memor ero tui de terra Jordanis et Hermoniim a monte modico.
8 Abyssus abyssum invocat, in voce cataractarum tuarum; omnia excelsa tua, et fluctus tui super me transierunt.
9 In die mandavit Dominus misericordiam suam, et nocte canticum ejus; apud me oratio Deo vitae meae.
10 Dicam Deo: Susceptor meus es; quare oblitus es mei? et quare contristatus incedo, dum affligit me inimicus?

1 I have a message from God in my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked:[b](A)
There is no fear(B) of God
before their eyes.(C)
2 In their own eyes they flatter themselves
too much to detect or hate their sin.(D)
3 The words of their mouths(E) are wicked and deceitful;(F)
they fail to act wisely(G) or do good.(H)
4 Even on their beds they plot evil;(I)
they commit themselves to a sinful course(J)
and do not reject what is wrong.(K)
5 Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness(L) to the skies.(M)
6 Your righteousness(N) is like the highest mountains,(O)
your justice like the great deep.(P)
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.(Q)
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!(R)
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.(S)
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;(T)
you give them drink from your river(U) of delights.(V)
9 For with you is the fountain of life;(W)
in your light(X) we see light.
10 Continue your love(Y) to those who know you,(Z)
your righteousness to the upright in heart.(AA)
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me,
nor the hand of the wicked(AB) drive me away.

Psalm 37[c]
Of David.
1 Do not fret because of those who are evil
or be envious(AD) of those who do wrong;(AE)
2 for like the grass they will soon wither,(AF)
like green plants they will soon die away.(AG)
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land(AH) and enjoy safe pasture.(AI)
4 Take delight(AJ) in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.(AK)
5 Commit your way to the Lord;
trust in him(AL) and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteous reward(AM) shine like the dawn,(AN)
your vindication like the noonday sun.
7 Be still(AO) before the Lord
and wait patiently(AP) for him;
do not fret(AQ) when people succeed in their ways,(AR)
when they carry out their wicked schemes.(AS)
8 Refrain from anger(AT) and turn from wrath;
do not fret(AU)—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,(AV)
but those who hope(AW) in the Lord will inherit the land.(AX)
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;(AY)
though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land(AZ)
and enjoy peace and prosperity.(BA)
12 The wicked plot(BB) against the righteous
and gnash their teeth(BC) at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming.(BD)
14 The wicked draw the sword(BE)
and bend the bow(BF)
to bring down the poor and needy,(BG)
to slay those whose ways are upright.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts,(BH)
and their bows will be broken.(BI)
16 Better the little that the righteous have
than the wealth(BJ) of many wicked;
17 for the power of the wicked will be broken,(BK)
but the Lord upholds(BL) the righteous.
18 The blameless spend their days under the Lord’s care,(BM)
and their inheritance will endure forever.(BN)
19 In times of disaster they will not wither;
in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
20 But the wicked will perish:(BO)
Though the Lord’s enemies are like the flowers of the field,
they will be consumed, they will go up in smoke.(BP)
21 The wicked borrow and do not repay,
but the righteous give generously;(BQ)
22 those the Lord blesses will inherit the land,
but those he curses(BR) will be destroyed.(BS)
23 The Lord makes firm the steps(BT)
of the one who delights(BU) in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,(BV)
for the Lord upholds(BW) him with his hand.
25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken(BX)
or their children begging(BY) bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely;(BZ)
their children will be a blessing.[d](CA)
27 Turn from evil and do good;(CB)
then you will dwell in the land forever.(CC)
28 For the Lord loves the just
and will not forsake his faithful ones.(CD)
Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed[e];
the offspring of the wicked will perish.(CE)
29 The righteous will inherit the land(CF)
and dwell in it forever.(CG)
30 The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom,(CH)
and their tongues speak what is just.
31 The law of their God is in their hearts;(CI)
their feet do not slip.(CJ)
32 The wicked lie in wait(CK) for the righteous,(CL)
intent on putting them to death;
33 but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked
or let them be condemned(CM) when brought to trial.(CN)
34 Hope in the Lord(CO)
and keep his way.(CP)
He will exalt you to inherit the land;
when the wicked are destroyed,(CQ) you will see(CR) it.
35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man
flourishing(CS) like a luxuriant native tree,
36 but he soon passed away and was no more;
though I looked for him, he could not be found.(CT)
37 Consider the blameless,(CU) observe the upright;(CV)
a future awaits those who seek peace.[f](CW)
38 But all sinners(CX) will be destroyed;(CY)
there will be no future[g] for the wicked.(CZ)
39 The salvation(DA) of the righteous comes from the Lord;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.(DB)
40 The Lord helps(DC) them and delivers(DD) them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves(DE) them,
because they take refuge(DF) in him.

1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
or discipline me in your wrath.(DG)
2 Your arrows(DH) have pierced me,
and your hand has come down on me.
3 Because of your wrath there is no health(DI) in my body;
there is no soundness in my bones(DJ) because of my sin.
4 My guilt has overwhelmed(DK) me
like a burden too heavy to bear.(DL)
5 My wounds(DM) fester and are loathsome(DN)
because of my sinful folly.(DO)
6 I am bowed down(DP) and brought very low;
all day long I go about mourning.(DQ)
7 My back is filled with searing pain;(DR)
there is no health(DS) in my body.
8 I am feeble and utterly crushed;(DT)
I groan(DU) in anguish of heart.(DV)
9 All my longings(DW) lie open before you, Lord;
my sighing(DX) is not hidden from you.
10 My heart pounds,(DY) my strength fails(DZ) me;
even the light has gone from my eyes.(EA)
11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;(EB)
my neighbors stay far away.
12 Those who want to kill me set their traps,(EC)
those who would harm me talk of my ruin;(ED)
all day long they scheme and lie.(EE)
13 I am like the deaf, who cannot hear,(EF)
like the mute, who cannot speak;
14 I have become like one who does not hear,
whose mouth can offer no reply.
15 Lord, I wait(EG) for you;
you will answer,(EH) Lord my God.
16 For I said, “Do not let them gloat(EI)
or exalt themselves over me when my feet slip.”(EJ)
17 For I am about to fall,(EK)
and my pain(EL) is ever with me.
18 I confess my iniquity;(EM)
I am troubled by my sin.
19 Many have become my enemies(EN) without cause[i];
those who hate me(EO) without reason(EP) are numerous.
20 Those who repay my good with evil(EQ)
lodge accusations(ER) against me,
though I seek only to do what is good.
21 Lord, do not forsake me;(ES)
do not be far(ET) from me, my God.

1 I said, “I will watch my ways(EX)
and keep my tongue from sin;(EY)
I will put a muzzle on my mouth(EZ)
while in the presence of the wicked.”
2 So I remained utterly silent,(FA)
not even saying anything good.
But my anguish(FB) increased;
3 my heart grew hot(FC) within me.
While I meditated,(FD) the fire(FE) burned;
then I spoke with my tongue:
4 “Show me, Lord, my life’s end
and the number of my days;(FF)
let me know how fleeting(FG) my life is.(FH)
5 You have made my days(FI) a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath,(FJ)
even those who seem secure.[k]
6 “Surely everyone goes around(FK) like a mere phantom;(FL)
in vain they rush about,(FM) heaping up wealth(FN)
without knowing whose it will finally be.(FO)
7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.(FP)
8 Save me(FQ) from all my transgressions;(FR)
do not make me the scorn(FS) of fools.
9 I was silent;(FT) I would not open my mouth,(FU)
for you are the one who has done this.(FV)
10 Remove your scourge from me;
I am overcome by the blow(FW) of your hand.(FX)
11 When you rebuke(FY) and discipline(FZ) anyone for their sin,
you consume(GA) their wealth like a moth(GB)—
surely everyone is but a breath.(GC)
12 “Hear my prayer, Lord,
listen to my cry for help;(GD)

I dwell with you as a foreigner,(GG)

1 I waited patiently(GL) for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.(GM)
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit,(GN)
out of the mud(GO) and mire;(GP)
he set my feet(GQ) on a rock(GR)
and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song(GS) in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord(GT)
and put their trust(GU) in him.
4 Blessed is the one(GV)
who trusts in the Lord,(GW)
who does not look to the proud,(GX)
to those who turn aside to false gods.[m](GY)
5 Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders(GZ) you have done,
the things you planned for us.
None can compare(HA) with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
they would be too many(HB) to declare.
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—(HC)
but my ears you have opened[n]—(HD)
burnt offerings(HE) and sin offerings[o] you did not require.
7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—
it is written about me in the scroll.[p](HF)
8 I desire to do your will,(HG) my God;(HH)
your law is within my heart.”(HI)
9 I proclaim your saving acts(HJ) in the great assembly;(HK)
I do not seal my lips, Lord,
as you know.(HL)
10 I do not hide your righteousness in my heart;
I speak of your faithfulness(HM) and your saving help.
I do not conceal your love and your faithfulness
from the great assembly.(HN)
11 Do not withhold your mercy(HO) from me, Lord;
may your love(HP) and faithfulness(HQ) always protect(HR) me.
12 For troubles(HS) without number surround me;
my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see.(HT)
They are more than the hairs of my head,(HU)
and my heart fails(HV) within me.
13 Be pleased to save me, Lord;
come quickly, Lord, to help me.(HW)
14 May all who want to take my life(HX)
be put to shame and confusion;(HY)
may all who desire my ruin(HZ)
be turned back in disgrace.
15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”(IA)
be appalled at their own shame.
16 But may all who seek you(IB)
rejoice and be glad(IC) in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
“The Lord is great!”(ID)
17 But as for me, I am poor and needy;(IE)
may the Lord think(IF) of me.
You are my help(IG) and my deliverer;(IH)

For the director of music. A psalm of David.
1 Blessed(IJ) are those who have regard for the weak;(IK)
the Lord delivers them in times of trouble.(IL)
2 The Lord protects(IM) and preserves them—(IN)
they are counted among the blessed in the land—(IO)
he does not give them over to the desire of their foes.(IP)
3 The Lord sustains them on their sickbed(IQ)
and restores them from their bed of illness.(IR)
4 I said, “Have mercy(IS) on me, Lord;
heal(IT) me, for I have sinned(IU) against you.”
5 My enemies say of me in malice,
“When will he die and his name perish?(IV)”
6 When one of them comes to see me,
he speaks falsely,(IW) while his heart gathers slander;(IX)
then he goes out and spreads(IY) it around.
7 All my enemies whisper together(IZ) against me;
