¹⁴ For this God is our God for ever and ever;
    he will be our guide^(A) even to the end.

¹⁷ He will respond to the prayer^(A) of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

¹⁸ Let this be written^(B) for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created^(C) may praise the Lord:
¹⁹ “The Lord looked down^(D) from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,
²⁰ to hear the groans of the prisoners^(E)
    and release those condemned to death.”
²¹ So the name of the Lord will be declared^(F) in Zion
    and his praise^(G) in Jerusalem
²² when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship^(H) the Lord.

²³ In the course of my life^[a] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.^(I)

“Come, let us go^(B) up to the mountain^(C) of the Lord,
    to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
    so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law^(D) will go out from Zion,
    the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.^(E)

52 Awake, awake,^(A) Zion,
    clothe yourself with strength!^(B)
Put on your garments of splendor,^(C)
    Jerusalem, the holy city.^(D)
The uncircumcised^(E) and defiled^(F)
    will not enter you again.^(G)
2 Shake off your dust;^(H)
    rise up,^(I) sit enthroned, Jerusalem.
Free yourself from the chains on your neck,^(J)
    Daughter Zion,^(K) now a captive.

“You were sold for nothing,^(L)
    and without money^(M) you will be redeemed.^(N)”

“At first my people went down to Egypt^(O) to live;
    lately, Assyria^(P) has oppressed them.

“For my people have been taken away for nothing,
    and those who rule them mock,^[a]”
declares the Lord.
“And all day long
    my name is constantly blasphemed.^(Q)
6 Therefore my people will know^(R) my name;^(S)
    therefore in that day^(T) they will know
that it is I who foretold^(U) it.
    Yes, it is I.”

⁷ How beautiful on the mountains^(V)
    are the feet of those who bring good news,^(W)
who proclaim peace,^(X)
    who bring good tidings,
    who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
    “Your God reigns!”^(Y)
8 Listen! Your watchmen^(Z) lift up their voices;^(AA)
    together they shout for joy.^(AB)
When the Lord returns^(AC) to Zion,^(AD)
    they will see it with their own eyes.
⁹ Burst into songs of joy^(AE) together,
    you ruins^(AF) of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted^(AG) his people,
    he has redeemed Jerusalem.^(AH)
10 The Lord will lay bare his holy arm^(AI)
    in the sight of all the nations,^(AJ)
and all the ends of the earth^(AK) will see
    the salvation^(AL) of our God.

¹¹ Depart,^(AM) depart, go out from there!
    Touch no unclean thing!^(AN)
Come out from it and be pure,^(AO)
    you who carry the articles^(AP) of the Lord’s house.
¹² But you will not leave in haste^(AQ)
    or go in flight;
for the Lord will go before you,^(AR)
    the God of Israel will be your rear guard.^(AS)

¹⁴ The children of your oppressors^(A) will come bowing before you;
    all who despise you will bow down^(B) at your feet
and will call you the City^(C) of the Lord,
    Zion^(D) of the Holy One^(E) of Israel.

¹⁵ “Although you have been forsaken^(F) and hated,
    with no one traveling^(G) through,
I will make you the everlasting pride^(H)
    and the joy^(I) of all generations.
¹⁶ You will drink the milk of nations
    and be nursed^(J) at royal breasts.
Then you will know^(K) that I, the Lord, am your Savior,^(L)
    your Redeemer,^(M) the Mighty One of Jacob.^(N)
17 Instead of bronze I will bring you gold,^(O)
    and silver in place of iron.
Instead of wood I will bring you bronze,
    and iron in place of stones.
I will make peace^(P) your governor
    and well-being your ruler.^(Q)
18 No longer will violence^(R) be heard in your land,
    nor ruin or destruction^(S) within your borders,
but you will call your walls Salvation^(T)
    and your gates Praise.^(U)
19 The sun will no more be your light by day,
    nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the Lord will be your everlasting light,^(V)
    and your God will be your glory.^(W)
20 Your sun^(X) will never set again,
    and your moon will wane no more;
the Lord will be your everlasting light,
    and your days of sorrow^(Y) will end.
²¹ Then all your people will be righteous^(Z)
    and they will possess^(AA) the land forever.
They are the shoot I have planted,^(AB)
    the work of my hands,^(AC)
    for the display of my splendor.^(AD)
