Psalm 62

Song of Trust in God Alone

To the leader: according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

For God alone my soul waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.(A)
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall never be shaken.(B)

How long will you assail a person,
    will you batter your victim, all of you,
    as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?(C)
Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
    They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
    but inwardly they curse. Selah(D)

For God alone my soul waits in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
    my fortress; I shall not be shaken.(E)
On God rests my deliverance and my honor;
    my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.(F)

Trust in him at all times, O people;
    pour out your heart before him;
    God is a refuge for us. Selah(G)

Those of low estate are but a breath;
    those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
    they are together lighter than a breath.(H)
10 Put no confidence in extortion,
    and set no vain hopes on robbery;
    if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.(I)

11 Once God has spoken;
    twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,(J)
12     and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
    according to their work.(K)

Psalm 63

Comfort and Assurance in God’s Presence

A Psalm of David, when he was in the Wilderness of Judah.

O God, you are my God; I seek you;
    my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
    as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.(L)
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
    beholding your power and glory.(M)
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
    my lips will praise you.(N)
So I will bless you as long as I live;
    I will lift up my hands and call on your name.(O)

My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast,[a]
    and my mouth praises you with joyful lips(P)
when I think of you on my bed
    and meditate on you in the watches of the night,(Q)
for you have been my help,
    and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.(R)
My soul clings to you;
    your right hand upholds me.(S)

But those who seek to destroy my life
    shall go down into the depths of the earth;(T)
10 they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
    they shall be prey for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God;
    all who swear by him shall exult,
    for the mouths of liars will be stopped.(U)

Psalm 64

Prayer for Protection from Enemies

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
    preserve my life from the dread enemy.(V)
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
    from the scheming of evildoers,(W)
who whet their tongues like swords,
    who aim bitter words like arrows,(X)
shooting from ambush at the blameless;
    they shoot suddenly and without fear.(Y)
They hold fast to their evil purpose;
    they talk of laying snares secretly,
thinking, “Who can see us?[b](Z)
    Who can search out our crimes?[c]
We have thought out a cunningly conceived plot.”
    For the human heart and mind are deep.(AA)

But God will shoot his arrow at them;
    they will be wounded suddenly.
Because of their tongue he will bring them to ruin;[d]
    all who see them will shake with horror.(AB)
Then everyone will fear;
    they will tell what God has brought about
    and ponder what he has done.(AC)

10 Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord
    and take refuge in him.
Let all the upright in heart glory.(AD)

Psalm 65

Thanksgiving for Earth’s Bounty

To the leader. A Psalm of David. A Song.

Praise is due to you,
    O God, in Zion,
and to you shall vows be performed,(AE)
    O you who answer prayer!
To you all flesh shall come.(AF)
When deeds of iniquity overwhelm us,
    you forgive our transgressions.(AG)
Happy are those whom you choose and bring near
    to live in your courts.
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
    your holy temple.(AH)

By awesome deeds you answer us with deliverance,
    O God of our salvation;
you are the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas.(AI)
By your[e] strength you established the mountains;
    you are girded with might.(AJ)
You silence the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    the tumult of the peoples.(AK)
Those who live at earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs;
you make the gateways of the morning and the evening shout for joy.

You visit the earth and water it;
    you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
    you provide the people with grain,
    for so you have prepared it.(AL)
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
    settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
    and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty;
    your wagon tracks overflow with richness.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow;
    the hills gird themselves with joy;(AM)
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks;
    the valleys deck themselves with grain;
    they shout and sing together for joy.(AN)

Psalm 66

Praise for God’s Goodness to Israel

To the leader. A Song. A Psalm.

Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth;(AO)
    sing the glory of his name;
    give to him glorious praise.(AP)
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
    Because of your great power, your enemies cringe before you.(AQ)
All the earth worships you;
    they sing praises to you,
    sing praises to your name.” Selah(AR)

Come and see what God has done:
    he is awesome in his deeds among mortals.(AS)
He turned the sea into dry land;
    they passed through the river on foot.
There we rejoiced in him,(AT)
    who rules by his might forever,
whose eyes keep watch on the nations—
    let the rebellious not exalt themselves. Selah(AU)

Bless our God, O peoples;
    let the sound of his praise be heard,(AV)
who has kept us among the living
    and has not let our feet slip.(AW)
10 For you, O God, have tested us;
    you have tried us as silver is tried.(AX)
11 You brought us into the net;
    you laid burdens on our backs;(AY)
12 you let people ride over our heads;
    we went through fire and through water;
yet you have brought us out to a spacious place.[f](AZ)

13 I will come into your house with burnt offerings;
    I will pay you my vows,(BA)
14 those that my lips uttered
    and my mouth promised when I was in trouble.(BB)
15 I will offer to you burnt offerings of fatted calves,
    with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams;
I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah(BC)

16 Come and hear, all you who fear God,
    and I will tell what he has done for me.(BD)
17 I cried aloud to him,
    and he was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart,
    the Lord would not have listened.(BE)
19 But truly God has listened;
    he has heard the words of my prayer.(BF)

20 Blessed be God,
    who has not rejected my prayer
    or removed his steadfast love from me.(BG)

Psalm 67

The Nations Called to Praise God

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

May God be gracious to us and bless us
    and make his face to shine upon us, Selah(BH)
that your way may be known upon earth,
    your saving power among all nations.(BI)
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you judge the peoples with equity
    and guide the nations upon earth. Selah(BJ)
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
    let all the peoples praise you.(BK)

The earth has yielded its increase;
    God, our God, has blessed us.(BL)
May God continue to bless us;
    let all the ends of the earth revere him.(BM)

Truly my soul finds rest(A) in God;(B)
    my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock(C) and my salvation;(D)
    he is my fortress,(E) I will never be shaken.(F)

How long will you assault me?
    Would all of you throw me down—
    this leaning wall,(G) this tottering fence?
Surely they intend to topple me
    from my lofty place;
    they take delight in lies.
With their mouths they bless,
    but in their hearts they curse.[b](H)

Yes, my soul, find rest in God;(I)
    my hope comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
    he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

    together they are only a breath.
10 Do not trust in extortion(P)
    or put vain hope in stolen goods;(Q)
though your riches increase,
    do not set your heart on them.(R)

11 One thing God has spoken,
    two things I have heard:
“Power belongs to you, God,(S)
12     and with you, Lord, is unfailing love”;(T)
and, “You reward everyone
    according to what they have done.”(U)

    they will go down to the depths of the earth.(AJ)
10 They will be given over to the sword(AK)
    and become food for jackals.(AL)

11 But the king will rejoice in God;
    all who swear by God will glory in him,(AM)
    while the mouths of liars will be silenced.(AN)

    they shoot suddenly, without fear.(AV)

They encourage each other in evil plans,
    they talk about hiding their snares;(AW)
    they say, “Who will see it[f]?”(AX)
They plot injustice and say,
    “We have devised a perfect plan!”
    Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.

But God will shoot them with his arrows;
    they will suddenly be struck down.
He will turn their own tongues against them(AY)
    and bring them to ruin;
    all who see them will shake their heads(AZ) in scorn.(BA)
All people will fear;(BB)
