68 [a]May (A)God arise, [b]may His enemies be scattered,
And [c]may those who hate Him flee from His presence.
2 As (B)smoke is driven away, so drive them away;
As (C)wax melts before a fire,
So the (D)wicked will perish before God.
3 But the (E)righteous will be joyful; they will rejoice before God;
Yes, they will rejoice with gladness.
4 Sing to God, (F)sing praises to His name;
[d](G)Exalt Him who (H)rides through the deserts,
Whose (I)name is [e]the Lord, and be jubilant before Him.
5 A (J)father of the fatherless and a (K)judge [f]for the widows,
Is God in His (L)holy dwelling.
6 God [g](M)makes a home for the lonely;
He (N)leads out the prisoners into prosperity,
Only (O)the rebellious live in parched lands.
7 God, when You (P)went forth before Your people,
When You (Q)marched through the desert, Selah
8 The (R)earth quaked;
The (S)heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
[h](T)Sinai itself quaked at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 You (U)made plentiful rain fall, God;
You confirmed Your inheritance when it was [i]parched.
10 Your creatures settled in it;
In Your kindness You (V)provided for the poor, God.
11 The Lord gives the [j]command;
The (W)women who proclaim good news are a great army:
12 “(X)Kings of armies flee, they flee,
And she who remains at home will (Y)divide the spoils!”
13 [k]When you lie down (Z)among the sheepfolds,
You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with [l]glistening gold.
14 When the Almighty (AA)scattered the kings [m]there,
It was snowing in (AB)Zalmon.
15 (AC)The mountain of Bashan is a [n]mountain of God;
The mountain of Bashan is a mountain of many peaks.
16 Why do you look with envy, you mountains of many peaks,
At the mountain God has (AD)desired as His dwelling?
Indeed, (AE)the Lord will dwell there forever.
17 The (AF)chariots of God are [o]myriads, (AG)thousands upon thousands;
[p]The Lord is among them as at Sinai, in holiness.
18 You have (AH)ascended on high, You have (AI)led captive Your captives;
You have received gifts among people,
Even among the rebellious as well, that [q]the Lord God may dwell there.
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily (AJ)bears our burden,
(AK)The God who is our salvation. Selah
20 God is to us a (AL)God of salvation;
And (AM)to [r]God the Lord belong ways of escape [s]from death.
21 God certainly will (AN)shatter the heads of His enemies,
The hairy [t]head of one who goes about in his guilt.
22 The Lord [u]said, “(AO)I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea,
23 So that [v](AP)your foot may shatter them in blood,
And the tongue of your (AQ)dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”
24 They have seen (AR)Your procession, God,
The procession of my God, my King, [w](AS)into the sanctuary.
25 The (AT)singers went on, the musicians after them,
[x]In the midst of the (AU)young women beating tambourines.
26 (AV)Bless God in the congregations,
Even the Lord, you who are of the (AW)fountain of Israel.
27 (AX)Benjamin, the [y]youngest, is there, [z]ruling them,
The leaders of Judah in their company,
The leaders of (AY)Zebulun, the leaders of Naphtali.
28 [aa]Your God has (AZ)commanded your strength;
Show Yourself strong, God, You (BA)who acted [ab]in our behalf.
29 [ac]Because of Your temple at Jerusalem
(BB)Kings will bring gifts to You.
30 Rebuke the (BC)animals [ad]in the reeds,
The herd of (BD)bulls with the calves of the peoples,
Trampling the pieces of silver;
He has (BE)scattered the peoples who delight in war.
31 [ae]Messengers will come from (BF)Egypt;
[af](BG)Cush will quickly stretch out her hands to God.
32 Sing to God, you (BH)kingdoms of the earth,
(BI)Sing praises to the Lord, Selah
33 To Him who (BJ)rides upon the [ag](BK)highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, (BL)He [ah]speaks with His voice, a (BM)mighty voice.
34 (BN)Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel,
And (BO)His strength is in the [ai]skies.
35 [aj]God, You are (BP)awesome from Your [ak]sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself (BQ)gives strength and power to the people.

69 Save me, God,
For the (BS)waters have [am]threatened my life.
2 I have sunk in deep (BT)mud, and there is no foothold;
I have come into deep waters, and a [an](BU)flood overflows me.
3 I am (BV)weary with my crying; my throat is parched;
My (BW)eyes fail while I wait for my God.
4 Those (BX)who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head;
Those who would [ao]destroy me (BY)are powerful, those who oppose me with lies;
(BZ)What I did not steal, I then have to restore.
5 God, You know (CA)my foolishness,
And (CB)my guilt is not hidden from You.
6 May those who wait for You not (CC)be ashamed because of me, Lord [ap]God of armies;
May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,
7 Because (CD)for Your sake I have endured disgrace;
(CE)Dishonor has covered my face.
8 I have become (CF)estranged [aq]from my brothers,
And a stranger to my mother’s sons.
9 For (CG)zeal for Your house has consumed me,
And (CH)the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.
10 When I wept (CI)in my soul with fasting,
It became my (CJ)disgrace.
11 When I made (CK)sackcloth my clothing,
I became (CL)a proverb to them.
12 Those who (CM)sit in the gate talk about me,
And (CN)songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.
13 But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, (CO)at an acceptable time;
God, in the (CP)greatness of Your mercy,
Answer me with [ar]Your saving truth.
14 Rescue me from the (CQ)mud and do not let me sink;
May I be (CR)rescued from those who hate me, and from the (CS)depths of water.
15 May the [as](CT)flood of water not overflow me
Nor the deep swallow me up,
Nor the (CU)pit close its mouth on me.
16 Answer me, Lord, for (CV)Your mercy is good;
(CW)According to the greatness of Your compassion, (CX)turn to me,
17 And (CY)do not hide Your face from Your servant,
For I am (CZ)in distress; answer me quickly.
18 Come near to my soul and (DA)redeem it;
(DB)Ransom me because of my enemies!
19 You know my (DC)disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor;
All my enemies are [at]known to You.
20 Disgrace has (DD)broken my heart, and I am so sick.
And (DE)I waited for sympathy, but there was none;
And for (DF)comforters, but I found none.
21 They also gave me [au](DG)a bitter herb in my food,
And for my thirst they (DH)gave me vinegar to drink.
22 May (DI)their table before them become a snare;
And [av](DJ)when they are at peace, may it become a trap.
23 May their (DK)eyes grow dim so that they cannot see,
And make their (DL)hips shake continually.
24 (DM)Pour out Your indignation on them,
And may Your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their [aw](DN)camp be desolated;
May there be none living in their tents.
26 For they have (DO)persecuted him whom (DP)You Yourself struck,
And they tell of the pain of those whom (DQ)You have [ax]wounded.
27 Add (DR)guilt to their guilt,
And (DS)may they not come into (DT)Your righteousness.
28 May they be (DU)wiped out of the (DV)book of life,
And may they not be [ay](DW)recorded with the righteous.
29 But I am (DX)afflicted and in pain;
[az]May Your salvation, God, (DY)set me safely on high.
30 I will (DZ)praise the name of God with song,
And (EA)exalt Him with (EB)thanksgiving.
31 And it will (EC)please the Lord better than an ox
Or bull with horns and hoofs.
32 The (ED)humble [ba]have seen it and are glad;
You who seek God, (EE)let your heart [bb]revive.
33 For (EF)the Lord hears the needy,
And (EG)does not despise those of His who are prisoners.
34 (EH)Heaven and earth shall praise Him,
The seas and (EI)everything that moves in them.
35 For God will (EJ)save Zion and (EK)build the cities of Judah,
So that they may live there and (EL)possess it.
36 The [bc](EM)descendants of His servants will inherit it,
And those who love His name (EN)will live in it.

70 (EO)God, hurry to save me;
Lord, hurry to help me!
2 (EP)May those who seek my [bd]life
Be put to shame and humiliated;
May those who delight [be]in my harm
Be turned back and dishonored.
3 (EQ)May those who say, “Aha, aha!” be [bf]turned back
Because of their shame.
4 May all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;
And may those who love Your salvation say continually,
“May God be exalted!”
5 But (ER)I am afflicted and needy;
(ES)Hurry to me, God!
You are my help and my savior;
Lord, do not delay.
Prayer of an Old Man for Rescue.
71 (ET)In You, Lord, I have taken refuge;
Let me never be put to shame.
2 (EU)In Your righteousness rescue me and save me;
(EV)Extend Your ear to me and help me.
3 (EW)Be to me a rock of (EX)dwelling to which I may continually come;
You have given the (EY)commandment to save me,
For You are (EZ)my rock and my fortress.
4 (FA)Save me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
From the [bg]grasp of the wrongdoer and the ruthless,
5 For You are my (FB)hope;
Lord [bh]God, You are my (FC)confidence from my youth.
6 I have (FD)leaned on you since my birth;
You are He who (FE)took me from my mother’s womb;
My (FF)praise is continually [bi]of You.
7 I have become a (FG)marvel to many,
For You are (FH)my strong refuge.
8 My (FI)mouth is filled with Your praise
And with (FJ)Your glory all day long.
9 Do not cast me away at the (FK)time of my old age;
Do not abandon me when my strength fails.
10 For my enemies have spoken [bj]against me;

Pursue and seize him, for there is (FO)no one to save him.”
12 God, (FP)do not be far from me;
My God, (FQ)hurry to my aid!
13 May those who are enemies of my soul be (FR)put to shame and consumed;
May they be (FS)covered with disgrace and dishonor, who (FT)seek [bl]to injure me.
14 But as for me, I will (FU)wait continually,
And will [bm](FV)praise You yet more and more.
15 My (FW)mouth shall tell of Your righteousness
And of (FX)Your salvation all day long;
For I (FY)do not know the art of writing.
16 I will come (FZ)with the mighty deeds of the Lord [bn]God;
I will (GA)make mention of Your righteousness, Yours alone.
17 God, You (GB)have taught me from my youth,
And I still (GC)declare Your wondrous deeds.
18 And even when I am (GD)old and gray, God, do not abandon me,
Until I (GE)declare Your [bo]strength to this generation,
Your power to all who are to come.
19 [bp]For Your (GF)righteousness, God, reaches to the [bq]heavens,
You who have (GG)done great things;
God, (GH)who is like You?
20 You who have (GI)shown [br]me many troubles and distresses
Will (GJ)revive [bs]me again,
And will bring [bt]me up again (GK)from the depths of the earth.
21 May You increase my (GL)greatness
And turn to (GM)comfort me.
22 I will also praise You with [bu](GN)a harp,
And Your [bv]truth, my God;
I will sing praises to You with the (GO)lyre,

23 My lips will (GQ)shout for joy when I sing praises to You;

And (GV)Your righteousness to the king’s son.

And the hills, in righteousness.
4 [cc]May he (GZ)vindicate the [cd]afflicted of the people,
Save the children of the needy,
And crush the oppressor.
5 [ce]May they fear You (HA)while the sun shines,
And [cf]as long as the moon shines, throughout all generations.
6 [cg]May he come down (HB)like rain upon the mown grass,
Like (HC)showers that water the earth.
7 [ch]May the (HD)righteous flourish in his days,
As well as an (HE)abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.
8 May he also rule (HF)from sea to sea,
And from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

And his enemies (HI)lick the dust.

16 May there be abundance of grain on the earth on top of the mountains;

And may people (HZ)wish blessings on themselves by him;

1 May God arise,(A) may his enemies be scattered;(B)
may his foes flee(C) before him.
2 May you blow them away like smoke—(D)
as wax melts(E) before the fire,
may the wicked perish(F) before God.
3 But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice(G) before God;
may they be happy and joyful.
4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,(H)
extol him who rides on the clouds[b](I);
rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.(J)
5 A father to the fatherless,(K) a defender of widows,(L)
is God in his holy dwelling.(M)
6 God sets the lonely(N) in families,[c](O)
he leads out the prisoners(P) with singing;
but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.(Q)
7 When you, God, went out(R) before your people,

its feathers with shining gold.”
14 When the Almighty[f] scattered(AE) the kings in the land,
it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon.(AF)
15 Mount Bashan,(AG) majestic mountain,(AH)
Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
16 why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain,
at the mountain where God chooses(AI) to reign,
where the Lord himself will dwell forever?(AJ)
17 The chariots(AK) of God are tens of thousands
and thousands of thousands;(AL)
the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.[g]
18 When you ascended(AM) on high,(AN)
you took many captives;(AO)
you received gifts from people,(AP)
even from[h] the rebellious(AQ)—
that you,[i] Lord God, might dwell there.
19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,(AR)
who daily bears our burdens.(AS)
20 Our God is a God who saves;(AT)
from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.(AU)
21 Surely God will crush the heads(AV) of his enemies,
the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.
22 The Lord says, “I will bring them from Bashan;
I will bring them from the depths of the sea,(AW)
23 that your feet may wade in the blood of your foes,(AX)
while the tongues of your dogs(AY) have their share.”
24 Your procession, God, has come into view,
the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.(AZ)
25 In front are the singers,(BA) after them the musicians;(BB)
with them are the young women playing the timbrels.(BC)
26 Praise God in the great congregation;(BD)
praise the Lord in the assembly of Israel.(BE)
27 There is the little tribe(BF) of Benjamin,(BG) leading them,
there the great throng of Judah’s princes,
and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.(BH)
28 Summon your power,(BI) God[j];
show us your strength,(BJ) our God, as you have done(BK) before.
29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem
kings will bring you gifts.(BL)
30 Rebuke the beast(BM) among the reeds,(BN)
the herd of bulls(BO) among the calves of the nations.
Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver.
Scatter the nations(BP) who delight in war.(BQ)
31 Envoys will come from Egypt;(BR)

32 Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth,(BT)
sing praise(BU) to the Lord,
33 to him who rides(BV) across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,

whose majesty(BZ) is over Israel,
whose power is in the heavens.

1 Save me, O God,
for the waters(CF) have come up to my neck.(CG)
2 I sink in the miry depths,(CH)
where there is no foothold.
I have come into the deep waters;
the floods engulf me.
3 I am worn out calling for help;(CI)
my throat is parched.
My eyes fail,(CJ)
looking for my God.
4 Those who hate me(CK) without reason(CL)
outnumber the hairs of my head;
many are my enemies without cause,(CM)
those who seek to destroy me.(CN)
I am forced to restore
what I did not steal.
6 Lord, the Lord Almighty,
may those who hope in you
not be disgraced because of me;
God of Israel,
may those who seek you
not be put to shame because of me.
7 For I endure scorn(CQ) for your sake,(CR)
and shame covers my face.(CS)
8 I am a foreigner to my own family,
a stranger to my own mother’s children;(CT)
9 for zeal for your house consumes me,(CU)
and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.(CV)
10 When I weep and fast,(CW)
I must endure scorn;
11 when I put on sackcloth,(CX)
people make sport of me.
12 Those who sit at the gate(CY) mock me,
and I am the song of the drunkards.(CZ)
13 But I pray to you, Lord,
in the time of your favor;(DA)
in your great love,(DB) O God,
answer me with your sure salvation.
14 Rescue me from the mire,
do not let me sink;
deliver me from those who hate me,
from the deep waters.(DC)
15 Do not let the floodwaters(DD) engulf me
or the depths swallow me up(DE)
or the pit close its mouth over me.(DF)
16 Answer me, Lord, out of the goodness of your love;(DG)
in your great mercy turn to me.
17 Do not hide your face(DH) from your servant;

19 You know how I am scorned,(DL) disgraced and shamed;
all my enemies are before you.
20 Scorn has broken my heart

Of Solomon.
1 Endow the king with your justice,(HC) O God,

the hills the fruit of righteousness.
4 May he defend the afflicted(HE) among the people
and save the children of the needy;(HF)
may he crush the oppressor.(HG)

as long as the moon, through all generations.(HI)
6 May he be like rain(HJ) falling on a mown field,
like showers watering the earth.
