A Song of Praise to the Lord for His Salvation and Judgment

A Psalm.

98 Oh, (A)sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has (B)done marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
(C)The Lord has made known His salvation;
(D)His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the [a]nations.
He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
(E)All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.
Sing to the Lord with the harp,
With the harp and the sound of a psalm,
With trumpets and the sound of a horn;
Shout joyfully before the Lord, the King.

Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell in it;
Let the rivers clap their hands;
Let the hills be joyful together
    before the Lord,
(F)For He is coming to judge the earth.
With righteousness He shall judge the world,
And the peoples with [b]equity.

Praise to the Lord for His Holiness

99 The Lord reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
(G)He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be [c]moved!
The Lord is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples.
Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
[d]He is holy.

The King’s strength also loves justice;
You have established equity;
You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy.

Moses and Aaron were among His priests,
And Samuel was among those who (H)called upon His name;
They called upon the Lord, and He answered them.
He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar;
They kept His testimonies and the [e]ordinance He gave them.

You answered them, O Lord our God;
You were to them God-Who-Forgives,
Though You took vengeance on their deeds.
Exalt the Lord our God,
And worship at His holy hill;
For the Lord our God is holy.

A Song of Praise for the Lord’s Faithfulness to His People

(I)A Psalm of Thanksgiving.

100 Make (J)a joyful shout to the Lord, [f]all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
(K)It is He who has made us, and [g]not we ourselves;
(L)We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

(M)Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
(N)His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

Promised Faithfulness to the Lord

A Psalm of David.

101 I will sing of mercy and justice;
To You, O Lord, I will sing praises.

I will behave wisely in a [h]perfect way.
Oh, when will You come to me?
I will (O)walk within my house with a perfect heart.

I will set nothing [i]wicked before my eyes;
(P)I hate the work of those (Q)who fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
A perverse heart shall depart from me;
I will not (R)know wickedness.

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor,
Him I will destroy;
(S)The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart,
Him I will not endure.

My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land,
That they may dwell with me;
He who walks in a [j]perfect way,
He shall serve me.
He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house;
He who tells lies shall not [k]continue in my presence.
(T)Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land,
That I may cut off all the evildoers (U)from the city of the Lord.

The Lord’s Eternal Love

A Prayer of the afflicted, (V)when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the Lord.

102 Hear my prayer, O Lord,
And let my cry come to You.
(W)Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble;
Incline Your ear to me;
In the day that I call, answer me speedily.

For my days [l]are (X)consumed like smoke,
And my bones are burned like a hearth.
My heart is stricken and withered like grass,
So that I forget to eat my bread.
Because of the sound of my groaning
My bones cling to my [m]skin.
I am like a pelican of the wilderness;
I am like an owl of the desert.
I lie awake,
And am like a sparrow alone on the housetop.

My enemies reproach me all day long;
Those who deride me swear an oath against me.
For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mingled my drink with weeping,
10 Because of Your indignation and Your wrath;
For You have lifted me up and cast me away.
11 My days are like a shadow that lengthens,
And I wither away like grass.

12 But You, O Lord, shall endure forever,
And the remembrance of Your name to all generations.
13 You will arise and have mercy on Zion;
For the time to favor her,
Yes, the set time, has come.
14 For Your servants take pleasure in her stones,
And show favor to her dust.
15 So the [n]nations shall (Y)fear the name of the Lord,
And all the kings of the earth Your glory.
16 For the Lord shall build up Zion;
(Z)He shall appear in His glory.
17 (AA)He shall regard the prayer of the destitute,
And shall not despise their prayer.

18 This will be (AB)written for the generation to come,
That (AC)a people yet to be created may praise the Lord.
19 For He (AD)looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
From heaven the Lord viewed the earth,
20 (AE)To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To release those appointed to death,
21 To (AF)declare the name of the Lord in Zion,
And His praise in Jerusalem,
22 (AG)When the peoples are gathered together,
And the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

23 He weakened my strength in the way;
He (AH)shortened my days.
24 (AI)I said, “O my God,
Do not take me away in the midst of my days;
(AJ)Your years are throughout all generations.
25 (AK)Of old You laid the foundation of the earth,
And the heavens are the work of Your hands.
26 (AL)They will perish, but You will [o]endure;
Yes, they will all grow old like a garment;
Like a cloak You will change them,
And they will be changed.
27 But (AM)You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.
28 (AN)The children of Your servants will continue,
And their descendants will be established before You.”

Psalm 102[c]

A prayer of an afflicted person who has grown weak and pours out a lament before the Lord.

Hear my prayer,(BU) Lord;
    let my cry for help(BV) come to you.
Do not hide your face(BW) from me
    when I am in distress.
Turn your ear(BX) to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.

For my days vanish like smoke;(BY)
    my bones(BZ) burn like glowing embers.
My heart is blighted and withered like grass;(CA)
    I forget to eat my food.(CB)
In my distress I groan aloud(CC)
    and am reduced to skin and bones.
I am like a desert owl,(CD)
    like an owl among the ruins.
I lie awake;(CE) I have become
    like a bird alone(CF) on a roof.
All day long my enemies(CG) taunt me;(CH)
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.(CI)
For I eat ashes(CJ) as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears(CK)
10 because of your great wrath,(CL)
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.
11 My days are like the evening shadow;(CM)
    I wither(CN) away like grass.

12 But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever;(CO)
    your renown endures(CP) through all generations.(CQ)
13 You will arise(CR) and have compassion(CS) on Zion,
    for it is time(CT) to show favor(CU) to her;
    the appointed time(CV) has come.
14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.
15 The nations will fear(CW) the name of the Lord,
    all the kings(CX) of the earth will revere your glory.
16 For the Lord will rebuild Zion(CY)

23 In the course of my life[d] he broke my strength;

27 But you remain the same,(DO)
    and your years will never end.(DP)
28 The children of your servants(DQ) will live in your presence;
    their descendants(DR) will be established before you.”
